Drive Time Cape Town to PE (PING TRAILRIDER)
« on: June 02, 2010, 09:14:34 am »
I know it is roughly 750 kms, but I would like to know how long it realistically takes by car (only stopping for petrol) and which route is the quickest. Thanks

just stick to the main route and watch out for speed traps especially between hartenbos and plett.

when the speed limit changes to 80km/h, that's where the traps are and they are clever about where they hide.  about 9 hrs drive, in that region.

Drive the N2 to George, then hook a left up the Outeniqua pass...

Then take the Langkloof road all the way to +- Humansdorp, and rejoin the N2 to PE. No cops or speedtraps... Very little traffic too...

Its about 50kms further, but it goes much quicker...

I think, just before George, you can already take the airport turn-off. That puts you on the old George road. Its also shorter this way to get to the pass...

MAybe check with Trailrider, he should choon you straight...  :thumleft:

Whilst I am doing the detour anyway, I might as well look up an old flame who was crowned Miss Langkloof (jip thats it) three years in a row.

I do this trip often as I have family up there and the best route for me is:
Du Toits, Worcester, Robertson, Montague, Barrydale, RONNIE SEX SHOP, Oudtshoorn, Uniondale (bypass the town) in the Langkoof, Joubertina, Kareedouw, N2, PE.

This road is nice and quiet and there are sections where you can give it plenty !!!

Unfortunetly you can't use me as a reference for time because I have two small kids that need bathroom breaks every 10mins but work on around 7/8 hours. If you're on a bike it will obviously be much less.

Agreed. Or go the Oudtshoorn, Willowmore, Steytlerville, PE way.

Yip, this is a good route, just be careful of Kudu, etc if doing it at night.  It is also probably the quickest route due to minimal traffic and traps.  if you have Garmap southern africa maps you can download speed trap locations for warning ahead of time on the road.

Travel safely.
I don't exaggerate, I just remember big!

Take R62 down the Langkloof, it pops you out on the N2 at Humansdorp I think.

Make a 2 day trip, sleep over Oudtshoorn or somewhere round there if you are up for sight seeing/taking it slowly.
