Some SAND at Rhino Park
« on: June 16, 2010, 04:46:09 pm »
This morning was pretty chilly and I did not know who would pitch up for the ride today. I met up with Shesha in Kempton Park, and at 08:30 it looked like we were the only frozen souls there, so off we went. Nice railway lines and some dirt roads all the way to Rhino.

We met up with some of the other riders and in the end we were a nice group.
KnopKop    -   X-Challenge
Shesha   -   1200GS
Nomad   -   KLR650
Jules   -   660Ten
Li   -   KTM640
WheelZ and CK   -   Dakar
Marnus   -   G450X
gser   -   R80GS
Tankgirl   -   X-Challenge
Olive Oil   -   F650GS
63Magic   -   X-Country
Man on the Moon   -   1200GS
Muddy   -   WR250
Zonica   -   CRF230
Colin   -   WR250

I hope I did not forget anyone  ::) ::)

So off we went looking for some sand, not to long and we had our first action, a mud puddle claiming Li on the 640. Not long after that Tankgirl’s bike was pissing coolant all over the place, Myself, Muddy and Tankgirl quickly got the covers off and try to see what could be the cause, the culprit, a busted radiator. Muddy nursed Tankgirl’s bike back while she rode the WR250 back to base.  After this ordeal, poor Tankgirls was without a ride for the rest of the day, I hope you get it sorted quick quick!!

We made our way to the beach for some sandy fun. It looked like everyone had a great time, the sand was very hard work, but very rewarding. There were lots and lots of spills!!! I got the privilege of riding the KTM640 in the thick sand as well, very nice!

After that, Marnus, myself, Jules, Nomad, Li, Shesha, WheelZ and Olive Oil did the outride and it was a great deal of fun! Nomad bought a prime piece of land, with the help of the KLR’s top notch suspension, glad you are OK!!! The mud also made an appearance and claimed some victims, namely myself and Nomad.

Thank you so much for everyone that joined this ride, BIG THANKS to Marnus for taking Tankgirl and her bike home!
I really did not take to many pics, I had way too much fun! Jules, Tankgirl and gser does have some pics.

I will try and add them today, otherwise tomorrow!

Shot for the lekker day out! Had a blast and enough spills to call it a proper ride! I must bring a camera with next time though.

Thanks for organizing a great outing KK!  It was loads of fun!  :3some:  Rhino was nice and dry with only one or two little mud puddles on the outride (not counting the perpetually wet spot near the exit!).  It's really sad about Tankgirl's radiator.  I've seen some beeeeeeeg crashes with minor cosmetic damage and then a busted radiator from practically nothing.  But there is always a next time - you still have a date with the beach  >:D

It was great to see the guys & gals on the big bikes dancing in the sand.  And it was quite dry so it took a lot of concentration and energy!  Very well done  :thumleft:

Looks like you guys had heeps of fun, some seriouslt professional photos.

Sorry you guys I missed out, got side tracked/hi-jacked into Arrows Rest with the 450's.  Sand I have done enough so the mountains and rocks seemed like an alternative.  Was really impressed with the G450X in the mountains and over technical rocks, it just worked amazingly....

Plan to make more time with the smaller bike going foward.

This looks like fun, as well as some skills I need to get.

I could not make it - other schtoopid things I had to do - but I am keen to go out there over this weekend for an hour or two just to play in the sand, and it seems there were a few other guys who also could not make it.

Sorry I couldn't make it - I STILL have that D cold... :(
The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

What a great day, Even the early morning 90k's there was fun, Lots of warm gear and heated grips for the win!!!

The rest of the day was pleasantly warm and still managed to build up a good sweat out there!

Li had an almost brand new KTM 640 to try out as she is looking to upgrade from the KLR, Ill let her give her opinions here but let me just say it looks like the dark side has claimed another victim, I'm not used to seeing her in my rear view mirrors so often!  ;D

Look at the smile in the first picture! Says it all!!!
