A bit of pain when you lift your arm above shoulder height is often a symptom of a minor shoulder separation. Best to see a doc and get an x-ray for confirmation. He/she will probably have you immobilise your arm in a sling for a week or two. If you help your shoulder heal properly there should be no long term effects, but if you gut it up and do nothing you might wind up with a slightly weaker shoulder that will have less resistance to the effects of your next fall. A series of minor separations over the years can leave you with a permanently weak shoulder which will have a limited range of motion. At least that's the way it worked out for me.
