Had the 1996 for a short while, but the traits displayed by it is the same for the 2000, according to those who know...nice MX Bike, not very good Enduro bike.

Powerband definately MX orientated, very quick turning. For enduro type riding the powerband translates to diffcult in technical sections, the quick turning to headshake when slowing down from higher top speeds.

As with the KX, a lot off these bikes found their way to Enduro work, and especially in the states at the time, but it requires reworking a couple of things (shocks, flywheel weight) Once done they shine on tight enduro work, the Suzuki enjoyed a level of success that prompted Suzuki to bring out the RMX (like the WR counterpart of the YZ )

ArcAngel, once you have tested Ettienne's bike and you want one..., I have one exactly the same as Ettienne's with the same extra's, but it is a bit more expensive than your R20k budget..
Trust that little voice in your head that says 'Wouldn't it be interesting if...'; And then do it.

Archangel, both Stroke-her and Woestersous bought Honda CR250's for good prices. The YZ's are best in longgevity[Yamaha] and cheapest and easily available spares, but more expensive in 2nd hand market.[like a Toyota]

Fork done by MP + - R1400
Hyde bashplate made for a KX250, not fitted yet, R1050
Flywheel at PSP, balanced, + - R850.  Still on my wishlist.
You can find spares easily, baught zorst gasket and oem clutch last week Thursday, had to wait 3-days ex Jhb :o ;D
Have 2003 Cr250R, makes me smile :thumleft:

Clutch cable, clutch is cool. Only issue I find with a pure mx bike is the lack of off the shelf enduro fittings like protection, braces etc. I don't mind the odd pooratech or mission though, as Dan said, I paid a nice price, so even if I pimp I'm still way below the price of a YZ and 300ktm.

Repair cost is probably more than the selling price :peepwall:

I'm sure the 2 KTM's are verrrie nice but I'd rather stick to Jap smokers in the price range below R25 000, which is where I play, imo :thumleft:

And the KX?    (Only added later...)

Or will it be a bit rough for me?

Well, you ride a 950 but that beast (KX500) will scare the "holy crap :o" outtame!!!!!!  I'll personally stick to a 250-300 2t, I mostly ride in rocky terrain and have twisted the throttle to far when tired, bwaaaaaaarpppp!!!! Not funny!

KX would be great at Atlantis, on the dunes...will venture and say prolly one of the best (edit: thrill).  Anywhere else it will be a pig, more so on a MX Track or tight enduro loop, but for 15k, even I was looking at it.

Skip the KTM's, comparing to the 300 for 19k, there is quite a few 250's for the same price, that will cost you less to run.

The 450, not knowing what is wrong, but a big end will set you back 20k...every time.

Look for a 250 2t

Is dit die 2t enduro weergawe? As dit is, is hulle nogal skaars, nie baie in SA, dink dit is meestal grey imports, glo hulle deel baie onderdele met gewone CR.
