Dear Wild Dog Supporter,

Please see the link to a lovely video of a pack of wild dogs returning to there reserve after leaving for 2 days.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sf_phinktWM

These wild dogs from Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve left the park for two day. This happens occasionally and usually they return after a day or two. It is more of exploratory adventure than active single-sex dispersals which can see wild dogs outside for months. Since they had tracking collars on them, Brendan Whittington-Jones, from the Endangered Wildlife Trust was able to keep tabs on their location, which generally remained within a kilometer of the parks boundary. Once they returned to the fence line trying to find a way in, Brendan and several of the park's field rangers suspected they would enter the Nqolothi crossing of the White Imfolozi River since rivers are often weak points in many fences due to the fluctuating water and sand levels. They raised the electric wires (as seen in the clip) to allow the dogs to return to the park without them trying to force the dogs back in. Trying to catch such a large pack in almost impossible given the terrain and resources and the best option is to allow the dogs to return easily themselves. Once they came back into the park the fence was put down again.

Warm regards,

Nicola Vogel
