Is this the best photo on the WD forum?
« on: July 24, 2010, 11:59:29 pm »
I am no photo expert, but I have read a lot of ride reports and looked at all the pics in all those reports, and there are some really good pics, but for me this one takes the cake.

I have never seen a pic that sums up a trip, and the "feeling" of the trip so well in one single photo like this one does. It was posted by Dustdevil, so I assume he took this photo of Sack on their trip to Lesotho with Michiel. (http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=43003.0)

Thanks for posting such incredible photo's guys, it makes one feel as if we were there with you.

Very very cool picture. It captured the emotion and makes the mind run with imagination as to what brought this rider to this moment. Whoever took the pic, very very nice. It will make an awesome large print.

I've watched the video of that trip. I dont think Sack is as dejected as it may seem. My take on the ride was that this oke's got gumption. There was one stage where he came off a lot. He never griped. Just composed himself, shook off the dust and got on with it, time after time.

I think if he did not have his helmet on in that foto you'ed see grit and determination on his face.

flipping amazing photo!
I would have to agree that this has to be one of the best I've seen on the forum, the dark clouds and the dark soil combine with the seemingly dejected mood of the rider to create an evocative piece.

Not nearly as good, but this type of pic in Lesotho is common

Right up there with Lighthousekeeper's winner.

Also reminds of me that photo of a Dog (can't remember who) sitting next to his Africa Twin with the front wheel bent.  Artistically not in the same class, but similar feeling.  Any links  to that?

I agree, I get the feeling from the photo that he is very tired and "gatvol" at this stage, but as you say, he picked himself up, dusted off, got back on and rode it.

This photo just makes me "feel" more than any other photo I have seen on the site, I love it.

Avontier's June competition pic also says it all.  DS riding is like life - You get down, you pick up and then you smile again!
I'd give my right hand to be ambidextrous!
