It has come to the attention of Yamaha Distributors South Africa that the mounting plate that mounts a top box (both the genuine Yamaha accessory product as well as after market units) onto the Yamaha XT 1200 Z Super Tenere has insufficient strength to handle a loaded top box on bumpy roads. A total of three units have failed to date (in our book that is three too many!!). The situation was reported through to Yamaha Motor Corporation, and after exhaustive tests it has been concluded that a new, redesigned mounting plate will be manufactured to replace the unit currently supplied on all XT 1200 Z’s. However, the manufacturing process will take a number of months to complete, so those owners of Super Tenere’s are herewith requested to NOT mount any top box (both the genuine Yamaha accessory unit or any after market unit) to their bikes until they have been contacted by their dealer to bring their bike in for a free replacement of the standard mounting plate with the upgraded, strengthened unit. This contact will be made as soon as the replacement mounting plates have landed in South Africa.

From hereon, no warranty claims will be entertained on damaged top boxes as a result of non compliance. Similarly, all sales of genuine Yamaha accessory top boxes have been frozen until the execution of the recall has been completed. Furthermore, no claims on top box contents will be entertained as a consequence of damages incurred through the top box falling off the bike.

YDSA would like to apologise to all its loyal customers of the fantastic Yamaha Super Tenere for any inconvenience this may cause and assure all that it has everyone’s best interests at heart for a safe, pleasurable and rewarding Yamaha experience.

If any customer requires any further information on this recall please feel free to contact your Yamaha dealer, who will gladly assist.
