SA helps Lesotho with Sani Pass upgrade
South Africa has provided Lesotho with R40-million in start-up capital, secured from the African Renaissance and International Cooperation Fund, for upgrading the road linking Sani Top and Mokhotlong in the Maloti-Drakensberg Transfrontier Park.
Lesotho had earlier asked South Africa to help it source seed funding for the upgrading of the 54-kilometre road linking Sani Top and Mokhotlong, with the kingdom's government set to provide the rest of the funding for the project, at as estimated total cost of about R336-million.
This amount will cover topographic surveys, construction material investigations, hydraulic and hydrological surveys, design, environmental impact assessments, construction and supervision of construction. It is envisaged that the design phase will take about 18 months and construction work about 36 months.
