GALLAGHER ANNOUNCES BIKE SHOW

The Management of Gallagher Convention Centre announced that it will host the country’s biggest ever biking show from 18 to 20 February, 2011. The event, which has been branded ‘All Things Bike’, will host more than 100 exhibitors with an estimate of 20 000 visitors and biking enthusiasts. WOEMA Produksies will be the media partner.

Theunis Nel, publisher of WOEMA magazine and KykNet’s WOEMA television production says: “During discussions with Gallagher management in January 2010, we decided to jointly host the event. Our experience in the industry and thorough market research shows that this multi-million Rand industry needs to be showcased. There are thousands of on- and off-road bikers and suppliers who will be able to identify with and benefit from such an event. When showcasing the industry through this event, the market will grow by offering the new and potential biker a platform where they can engage with the environment in a safe and non-intimidating way.”

Charles Wilson, GM Operations at Gallagher and biking enthusiast, says that the event should attract a cross section of the biking community: “Potential exhibitors will include manufacturers, accessories, clothing, navigational equipment, insurance, finance, safety and awareness. During the last eighteen months we have invested extensively in Gallagher’s infrastructure and human resources. Our offering now includes organising and hosting our own shows. We have done so successfully in the past and are well positioned to make ‘All Things Bike’ synonymous with the many memorable events recorded at Gallagher.”

Wilson says that three exhibition halls will be utilised. “Hall 1 will be a park-and-sell venue of over 3000m² for about 300 bikes. We will arrange for finance houses to be on site. A display position for each bike on sale will be a mere R300 for the duration of the show. Hall 2 offers more than 3000m² of exhibition space with a single level entry for build up and breakdown. It features all necessary electrical infrastructure, plumbing and telecommunications access supplied through floor ducting. It also has wi-fi hot spot facilities and the area will be used for demonstrations and for children’s entertainment with professional supervision. Hall 3 will be used for entertainment and a pub style restaurant venue, as well as more than 1500m² exhibition space. We will also build a ride on stage of 85m², full throttle entertainment and competition areas. The hall features all relevant services required for these activities.”

During the three-day event there will be much on offer in terms of entertainment, including a bike competition for custom cruisers, custom superbikes, rebuilt vintages and custom spray jobs. Companies who want to utilise the auditorium, which can seat 450 persons in cinema style, may hire the facility for product launches or live entertainment. It has a rotating stage, recessed lift stage and a 5,000 kg weight capacity on stage. “This is the same venue where the television production ‘The Weakest Link’ was produced,” says Wilson. He explains that there are special discounting offers for companies who want to secure space before October 2010.

Marketing of the event will be managed by Gallagher’s Ciné de Jager. “We will be investing over R700, 000 in order to secure the maximum number of visitors. Information packs are available for potential exhibitors. Our advertising and public relations programme will be extensive and will include print media advertising, face-to-face marketing by our professional sales team, banners, billboards, radio advertising, street pole advertising as well as posters and flyers on popular bike routes. One of the special promotions will be a Harley Davidson that will be given away. During the show we will also distribute visitor bags which will contain marketing material. Branding in the three halls, ‘All Things Bike’ café and bar/restaurant will include hanging and pull-up banners. Sponsors will be acknowledged in the official show programme. A definite highlight will be a Charity Bike Run on Sunday 20 February 2011. Woema will also be filming during the show for use in their own television production.”

De Jager says that Gallagher has hosted many exhibitions under her supervision and she has formed her own impression about exhibition success: “An exhibition appeals to all the senses. It is an event which delivers highly targeted audiences to your doorstep. In one weekend exhibitors can expect to see more visitors than they would see visiting their own business over an extended period of time. These people come to an exhibition to buy and they want to buy from those who are represented at the venue. So you need to take advantage of this opportunity and get involved. The benefits will be of your own making.”
