Since you guys make me jelous with yer hot riding season, I've decided to "cool" you off a bit from the northern part of hemisphere where the winter resides now.

Couple of pics around Tallinn and nearby areas. Just came to work here from the other side of the country, so I chilled around and took some pics...

img970.jpg

In some ways it's a nice city. Surrounded with the sea, lot of ports, very nice (UNESCO specced) medieval town.

img928.jpg

Walking around in the different ports you can find these things.

img922.jpg

img930.jpg

A sub from the pre- and WW2 era, made in the U.K. btw.

img931.jpg

Regular view from the gettho side of the town to the various ports. (infra-red picture)

img932.jpg

Some sunken stuff. You can see Tallinn panorama in the background.

img972.jpg

For a better panorama from the city I visited the TV-tower. It's 314 metres high.

img992.jpg

From one side.

img996.jpg

Closer, some bigger more isolated port.

img993.jpg

Another view, here mostly live the wealthier people, including the president somewhere there near to the sea.

img997.jpg

Tanker rallye?

img995.jpg

The view from other side to the main city.

img994.jpg

Closer view. The 500,000+ citizen city looks small and flat from this height and distance, but it's actually not.

img998.jpg

The view from the ground from the other side of the city over the sea. Looks even flatter from here.

img002.jpg

There are some very nice shores and beaches nearby. Around 8-15 miles ride outside the city.

img960.jpg

img957_2.jpg

img954.jpg

img941.jpg

img938.jpg

And strange abondoned USSR buildings at the seaside

img940.jpg

img948.jpg

img946.jpg

High cliffs.

img949_ilmaF.jpg

And loads of nice scenery GSing roads I scouted out.

img006.jpg

Snow came down at some time few weeks back, but it's now melted away. Very strange winter we have this year.

img012.jpg

The meld.

img003.jpg

Probably because of those things around the world

img004.jpg

The big one from USSR times.

img005.jpg

Closer, the construction details.

img920.jpg

A ghetto house in the city periphery.

img013.jpg

New year's celebration

img013_2.jpg

The people's favourite is the champagne of course if you crop the pic in.

img018.jpg

Party people

img018_2.jpg

Closer. Is she welding worldbeater panniers for the GS?

img020.jpg

Frozen midnight city park.

img019.jpg

img017.jpg

Typical medieval city streets.

img021.jpg

Some sketches...

img023.jpg

And worn off ones. City centre in the background.

img028.jpg

The Sea before it froze.

img029.jpg

Loads of birds in the Lahemaa National park, some 60 miles from Tallinn.

img030.jpg

Big piece of kit.

img035.jpg

Cold breeze.

img039.jpg

img040.jpg

Sunset.

img042.jpg

Job car, a Boomer 318 diesel, really nice cager actually I've now discovered. Returns amazing mileage, some 4.5L per 100kms on highway, 6L in the city and easily starts up in the -20C weather.

img076_2.jpg

A cager, wish they gave me a snow-mobile, would be much more fun 8)

img047.jpg

Strange creations.

img050.jpg

Paldiski bank coast and the mad sea.

img051.jpg

img052.jpg

img053.jpg

Don't fell off tho, it's a long way down... The crack is already going as seen on the pic.

img057.jpg

City centre.

img057_crop.jpg

Crop in the same pic and you see a pattern of some sort.

img058.jpg

Tallinn...

img060.jpg

img061.jpg

img062.jpg

Linnahall, a very strange architecture.

img063.jpg

Tallinn city lights reaching the two penninsulas.

img064.jpg

img085.jpg

img089.jpg

img091.jpg

Spotted a stunning sunset on one evening - it's actually snowing at the same time! Very mystic colour show it was, much better it was to see with own eyes.

img092.jpg

Different angle - Tallinn silhouette in the background.

img100.jpg

The sea was nice and come.

img096.jpg

... and then everything started to freeze...

img067.jpg

img070.jpg

The beach. Change clothes there and take a nice icy swim in the -15C weather, very healthy. :thumb2

img072.jpg

Sandy-snowy landscape.

img077.jpg

img044.jpg

img130.jpg

img075.jpg

img081.jpg

It's good I got these pics coz me camera just died on that freezing weather, I put the brand new battery into the camera, but then the mechanics started to fail. Some pics came out OK.

img083.jpg

img094.jpg

Salt lake in Bolivia or Estonia? A hint: -20C! On some winters you can walk over the sea to Sweden, or to Finland, just start going if you know the direction.

img111.jpg

img105.jpg

Some twisted landscapes before that.

img112.jpg

img124.jpg

Wierd terrain to walk on, not exacly a sand...

img129.jpg

And feet get bloody cold...

img125.jpg

Pattern.

img122.jpg

More views...

img123.jpg

Can you see me boots?

img121.jpg

The cold Sun. Fox traces in the snow, they hunt sleeping seabirds in the nighttime on that peninsula, Lahemaa National Park.

img119.jpg

The Sea fought back...

img116.jpg

... and created this phenomena. Birds were saved, they got something to eat at least.

img117.jpg

So what's happening on that pic? Can you see me on it? :)

Cheers! don tsiklonaut
