I've just come back from the most AMAZING weekend of Adventure Bike riding at the Klipbokkop 4x4 reserve...

About two weeks ago I received a phone call from Lourens, one of the instructors, he asked me if I would be interested in joining them at their Klipbokkop riding course, I was overjoyed and instantly excited! This was a chance of a lifetime.

The day before the event Lourens phoned me, saying he had organized me a KTM 990S, this was even more awesome, I have always spoken about how this is by far the best/coolest DS bike around...and now I get a chance to ride one...for a whole weekend, my smile looked something like this --->  ;D

The event started at 9am on Friday...but unfortunately I still had to write two exams on Friday, I finished the second one in record time...and shot through to Klipbokkop with the car...

Upon arriving it looked like this, simply amazing

The friendly staff booked me into my room, I got kitted up just as Lourens was coming to fetch me

The course covers everything you need to know for offroad/adventure riding on a DS bike, the techniques taught here are so important in order to become a more confident, safer and faster rider.

Some awesome pictures of me taken by one of the other riders
Uphills on the 990 are fun!

Lourens, jeez this guy can ride a bike! He makes that 990 look like a 125 through this terrain

There were regular breaks in between the exercises to rest a bit, and drink some water.

There are various of these quarries on the farm, they are great for training

After some more training in the quarries we went on some great little outrides where I got the open the 990 up abit and boy oh boy does this bike come into it's own when the going starts getting faster, we regrouped back at the lodge for a lovely lunch, the catering at Klipbokkop was 10/10.

One of the last things on the agenda was the sand beach, now to get to the sand beach you had to ride abit of sandy 4x4 track was some deep, massive whoops, tight turns etc. This turned out to be one of the highlights of the weekend, the 990 was just amazing on the sand, I felt like a dakar rider through the course, damn it was fun

The tracks towards the beach were great, but the wide open sand was just as much fun, the guys were happy to have made it here

This bike is just so beautiful! I'm sorry, but if this doesn't move your sole, that's your problem, there must be something wrong with you then.

Having 100hp on sand is great, the sand's quiet thick, but you just need to get on the pegs quickly, weight back and try to get on top of the sand

From there on its just infinite powerslides with all that power

In the evenings we were once again served with 5 star catering, it was great.

To wrap up the course, on Sunday morning we went on a great outride through some gnarly sandy, rocky, muddy forest sections, sand roads, gravel roads, it was all there and we could now apply all our newly learned skills whilst riding.

The course was amazing, I cannot express enough how important it is for people to attend this type of training, it was amazing to see how the guys improved and got more comfortable as they learned their bikes better.
In my opinion, rather than spending massive amounts of money to get the latest performance pipes and gadgets, rather spend the money on some proper training first, the amount of skill you will gain is tremendous, you will also be a safer rider as you will be prepared for anything the terrain may throw in your path, you will be comfortable on your machine and ontop of everything you will learn at this course, it's also a helluva lot of fun and you will meet some great new riders.

I'd just like to thank the guys from Country Trax once again, Lourens, Leon and Jan for the opportunity to join this weekend, it was mind blowing.
