A 28-year old man was critically injured in a motorcycle accident and had to be airlifted to hospital early this morning, reported Netcare 911 paramedics.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Lauren Copley said their paramedics were despatched to Fairtrees Road in Durbanville just before 8am this morning.
Exact details of how the accident occurred is unknown. It is believed a female motorist collided with his motorcycle and he was flung onto a gravel section next to the road.
Netcare 911 paramedics, assisted by other emergency services, treated and stabilised the man on scene. They said he sustained a femur and ankle fracture, as well as a presumed pelvis fracture.
Due to the serious nature of his injuries, paramedics on scene called in the assistance of an emergency helicopter, which landed in a nearby open field. The man was airlifted to Tygerberg hospital in a critical condition.
The female driver of the car was unhurt but severely traumatised. ENDS
