I won

Yep of course  ;)

Thunmp wanted to try the 950 (secrety obsessed with going orange) We had an awesome ride on the enduro tracks around kakafucklagte. It made me realise:

1. What awesome tracks we have 10 mins from our doorsteps
2. ADV bikes can do anything a plastic does
3. Thump is a flippin' good rider
4. The 950 is inspired by God
5. The KLR is not too shabby at all

There's a bit of sand, mud, rocks, hill climbs, fast twee spoor, fynbos, and even a secretary bird at 8.03 minutes. I pranged Thump's bike at 3.01 minutes as well  ???

Thanks Thump. Had a great ride.  :thumleft:

Thanks dude, nice video.
Maybe when I'm big I'll ride as well as you.

I need something to take my mind off the 950 now

Looked like fun. Although this looked to dry to be yesterday morning as I was also out there.

We started at seven, then had a little rain between Jagtesvlakkete and The oval and then it cleared again

Rain really came down near the oval at about 10.

I really liked that bike.
As mentioned, I've only ridden the KLR and a DR650.
I was quite nervous at first, expecting the larger bike to be heavy and very worried I'd drop it as it's in good nick.
(It was spotlessly clean when I got on)
My first intention was to go straight to Jagtesvlakte and get used to the bike on the flat plain first, but the bike felt quite light and maneuverable.

The 950 is much more stable over the deep sand and loose rocks.
The only problem being the throttle. It's more difficult on the slower technical stuff as the bike just wants to wheel spin.
(This must be a habit it picked up from J-dog). At one point I stopped at the start of a rocky incline and when trying to pull away the wheel just spun. I had to go sideways to get momentum then it's great. I'm pretty sure  the Lighter KLR would have just pulled away and carried on.
(The 950 had scorpions on the back)
Towards the end I was getting more used to the throttle and was enjoying it.
I now understand why KTM riders go through tyres.

But overall the 950 is much smoother and you easily find yourself going faster than you expect.
The longer wheel base and stiffer suspension give a lot more confidence in loose sand and rocks than the KLR.

When I got back onto the KLR near the end it felt weird.
The back has been raised slightly making the front a bit looser, but I never realised how much untill I got off the 950.
You feel like you're sitting right over the wheel.
took a bit of cranking up and down the rocky paths to get the feel again.

I am looking for a 950 now so I can ride with my big friends.
I won't be riding any rocky riverbeds, but then I'm not planning to do that with the KLR anymore either.
As long as I can do the semi technical stuff like around there I'll be happy.
Once I've spent some more time out there on my own bike I reckon me and the 950 will be well matched.

Anyone know where I can find a list comparing the different models?

Ja Ja, I know, but I'm not a KTM rider yet, just a tester.
And very nervous on a urruh okes bike. Especially in the begining

But sometimes just hanging the leg out and forward does also help keep the front weighted when turning in loose sand.

But when you ride kak like me. you tend to paddle more.

Golden (or shall I say orange  :ricky: )  rule is - twist that right had!!! Should get you out of most situations where paddling might look like an option.
