Although BMW's off-road intentions are beyond rumor at this point (they are fact), there is still speculation about a possible acquisition of Husqvarna by BMW.
A Spanish motorcycle magazine is reporting that BMW is about the acquire a manufacturing facility from Husqvarna in Italy, and is exploring joint development of BMW's off-road line with input from Husqvarna.
BMW continues to aggressively expand its brand beyond its traditional, staid image to include high performance products both on the road and off-road. BMW is already one of the most successful, independent automobile manufacturers, where its product development decisions have been superb (for the most part). We will see if they can duplicate this success as they expand their line of motorcycles.
