It was time for another ride before winter blues kills us. So we decided to ride the Cedarberg during winter - just a weekend ride - August 2010
Route: Somerset West, Wellington, Baainskloof, Ceres, Op Die Berg, Oasis, Wupperthal, Biedouw Valley, Clanwilliam, Algeria, Kromrivier and back via Ceres. Around 700km's in total.
Riding team: Captain Cook, MX Junky, myself (2Smoker), Chris and Pieter.
Saturday turned out to be a glorious day. As always we start at the BP at Waterstone Village in Somerset West.
Cold in the morning but warming up to around 25 deg in the Cedarberg.
There was mist on Baainskloof but that made it even better....
Just after Op Die Berg, where the gravel begins...
That KTM950 is a bit heavy....
The ride to Oasis was great and the toasted samies big as always. The owner Gerrit was kind enough to organise fuel for us - the smaller bikes are limited to around 200km's per tank.
Captain Cook parked his bike next to a tree; it fell over and managed to create a big dent in the tank..
On the way to Eselbank
Over Eselbank the sand proved challenging for one or two chaps....
After 320km's we reach camp at Enjoy guest farm.
After the tree and the sand at Eselbank Captain Cook's KLE looked like a poor orphan..
Sunday morning the weather was a bit different and we were about to experience a cold front. But the ride to Clanwilliam and Algeria was enjoyable. As was the ride via Kromrivier and the short offroad section back to Oasis.
However it was getting colder by the second.
Pieter trying to warm himself by the fire at Oasis...
Once we exited the Cedarberg, all hell broke loose. Pouring rain and howling wind. The section via Kouebokkeveld to Ceres was literally the coldest ever...
Once in Ceres, all we could do was gulp some neat wisky to warm up a bit before the cold ride back to Somerset West.
But that is all part of the fun of Adventure Riding....
