New 30 year anniversary model goes for R165 000 standard. Add estimated R50 - R60k worth of extras, and I believe I saved plenty.

I will do a customized rebuild like this again any day.  :mwink:

Put this way, I guess the time you spent on it is well worth the final result!  :thumleft:

I do not think that dying is a good idea.
Living doing something that you love is a good idea.
Living until you die is a good idea. If living happens to kill you it means you made a mistake, but we are human, and humans make mistakes, so go for it, enjoy it, live until you die, rather than not living for your whole life.

Farking mosquitoes chowed me awake!

Really nice rebuild Boer.

With all the extras, R120k all in, still a significant saving off the Retail price list.

What's the story behind the early crash - the motor hasn't even been run in?

With all extras in I am looking at R112k max. It was a demo model borrowed by dealer to trustwothy client. He apparently phoned them the next morning and this is what they got. Dont know who or how he crashed it. I understand why it was a write off. If I didn't have good relations with my excellent mechanic, Mark Dickenson and Acme, it would've been impossible to fix for under R220 000.

Most expensive part on the rebuild was new instrument cluster at R9k. I only found out the original mileage at the very end of the build. It was at 1107km. Bonus!!

Lekker Boer, I do not know about you, but I love building up a bike like that, it is going to end up cheaper than new or even 2ndhand and you are going to know that bike properly! What a bargain!

Nice one Boer. I am busy doing a similar thing, but keeping it stock standard for now, I currently have a dispute with BMW-Insurance and I am having to go to the ombudsman. So I am rebuilding my 1200GS to exact standard, and after I have visited the ombudsmans, and shoved my "reasonable" repair up BMW-INSURANCE'S (YOU KNOW WHAT) sideways and they pay out, will I put on a acropic and so do a few further face lifts. I firstly have to satersfy the Standard BMW issue first.

Remember handle bar raisers are not stock standard on your bike.

Nicely done man  :thumleft:

The problem with insurance quotes is that it is based on replacement of parts (even if its only slightly scratched)and BMW is the worst. But then again we as customers usually want our bikes repaired to original condition that we bought it in and are not willing to live with the little scratches.

Think that you probably saved a lot of money on the build but the resale value is also probably down, but if you plan to keep it who cares. You have a great looking bike with the latest engine for a lot less than what you would normally pay.

Nice one Boer!! I can also certainly vouch for Mark Dickinson and his excellent workmanship, quality and attention to small detail that makes him stand out from the rest. He looked after my previous R1200GSA with meticulous care in terms of full servicing, diagnostics, fine tuning and that special TLC before and after major road trips. So if your bike is out of warranty I would strongly suggest you give Mark a try.
