Yeah.. awesome okes, thanks for the comments.

I think the lekker thing about these ride reports is it shows that anyone can do this kind of trip.. all you need is a bag of goods strapped to your bike, about R25k, 2 months and the will to go with the flow africa time.

This trip came at a time in my life ( probably a mid life crisis.. who knows) when I really just needed to get away and reflect on what was going on on my life, we get so consumed with small issues, stupid problems, money, time, family, work.. the stress gets a bit much sometimes.. when you go on a trip like this you understand how lucky we are to have what we have and reminds us not to take it for granted.

If you have every wanted to go see Africa.. there is no time like now. The world won't stop when you leave, and it will be better off when you get back, thinner, more tanned and with an appreciation for life you never knew existed.

Yeah for sure, I am also planning a trip to Zim.. I am just not sure I want to do it on the R.. looking for a bike with a bit more comfort but shout if you have any questions, I recently helped a mate prep his bike and plan his route, he is heading into Zambia as we speak and he is having a blast.

I am planning on going up to Kariba but I think I will touch on lake Malawi again, it is the jewel of Africa IMO.

Thanks..

Actually I was talking about this Trip to a mate 2 nights ago.. It was such a jol although daunting at the time, the experience you pick up from doing a lekker long trip really makes you want to do more.

When i get the 1200GSA one day I will take the miss up to Tanzania.. it is well worth the visit.

thanks.. in this trip we did a detour around Zimbabwe as the details around how stable it was varied so much depending on the locals experiences, but by all accounts Zim is very nice to travel through now, at the time we avoided it like the plague.

I am sorry we missed Kariba but I have the bike now so the trip will happen as soon as my hand heals.

Glad okes still enjoy this RR, it brings back a special time.

Shanks.. at the time we went Zim was a bit dodge so we gave it a miss, I'm keen to do a Zim trip next year.. I am a Zimbo so would be keen to go visit the house I was raised in, and Kariba. as a kid we stayed at Carribea bay which I see is still there but quite an expensive resort now. During the war my dad was based on Kariba dam wall for a while so as a kid we would go visit him every few weeks.

yeah the bikes got all fixed up, this was quite a while ago, I ended up selling the Transalp 650 to a chap who was here from the UK, he wanted to ride the bike back to the UK from CT.

Seeing as I had pretty much done everything known to man on the bike he bought it ( minus the scott oiler, crash bars and one or 2 small things ) and off he went, he did Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, I think a little Malawi and quite a bit of Zim.. a few months later he phoned me from Harare and said he had done enough riding..  :laughing4: I think he bit off a bit more than he realised.

Anyway he came back to Cape Town and he sold the bike to someone but that bike did about another 10 000km trouble free. :thumleft: freaking bulletproof those Transalps.
