I'm now a DRZ owner
« on: December 13, 2010, 12:52:59 pm »
Hi, I'm now the owner of a DRZ 400. This is what she looked like when I got her home. The problem I now have is that the fuel tap is not working!! this is what the rubber inside looks like. The agents want to sell me a new tap for over 600 bucks. Can anyone here help?

Many thanks,

You can get a WR400 fueltap from Yamaha for less than R200

Thats what I did. Perfect match.

Will just make sure of the year model WR, I almost think they were all the same

Ok...

The one you want is from the '99-'00 Yamaha WR400

I think the part number is 2GU-24500-02-00, but just check to be sure...

Just remember that the reserve capacity on this fueltap is less than stock DRZ, so test it before moering into the unknown thinking your reserve will save your bacon... Trust me, I learned this the hard way.  ::)

Also, take your original fueltap along to Yamaha and compare before you buy.

Good luck

Hi Bus,

Thanks very much. That was real fast. I can't even fix my post, I'm new at this, and you've given me an answer. Unfortunately I don't have the tap with me, but I'll bring it with tomorrow and stop there on the way home.

Any news on your bike?

Take a pic of the engine/carb from the left side and post it here.

Or just look on the carb itself, if it says Keihin, you got an E. If it says Mikuni, you got S.

What year model is it?

Hi Bus,

I'll post a pic tomorrow. I've had the carb off to clean it and I didn't see a name on it. I bought it as an 08 model that was when it was registered, but the tenth digit of the VIN is Zero. The agent tells me the VIN is an 02 model.

Thanks,

I dont know the vin number setup so well?

Impossible for me to say without looking at the carb...

One other sure way: does it have this plastic magafter? (Just below the rad pipe) If so, it's an S. If not, probably an E.

Its the pair air valve, something to do with backfire reduction blablabla (Bunny Hugger stuff)... :dontknow:

Hi,

Thanks GW.

Here is the pic of mine, the carb is so busy, more plastic pipe that a fish tank, I can't see the name, but it has Flat CR on the top. Is that why they call it the FCR, what does that stand for? Mine does not have the rad fan, but there are a couple of wires which look cut off. Should there be a fan and where would the switch go? My concern is which rad guards do I need what is the difference?

Thanks Guys

My '06 E has no fan - runs fine.
Ordered my rad guards from Thumpertalk.

Hi LGF,

I know your part of the world, my sister lives there.

I want to order from TT also, just want to make sure I get ones that fit. So I specify for the E.

Thanks,

Hi LGF,

That looks great and cheaper than the unabiker ones. Have you given them the stress test yet?

Thanks,
