KTM 640 Adventure (Buy or Not Buy?)
« on: December 13, 2010, 08:30:57 pm »
Hi. I am looking at buying a 2006 Ktm 640 Adventure with 12000Kim's on the clock. The bike is in mint condition besides for a few small scratches on the tank. The asking price for the bike is R 59000.00. Is this too much or do you think that the price is fair? Any idea on trade and retail price for a 2006?

Ja, its way too much. How can I contact the owner.

Just kidding. If its really been looked after, the price seems "normal".

I just sold my 2005 model for 60k (6500km on clock) also in mint condition. I would however only pay that price if it already had a bunch of extra's, pipe mandatory.

Popular opinion is that:

The Dakar is:
- very reliable (not that the KTM is unreliable, the Dakar is just legendary for it's bulletproof-ness)
- smooth (less vibration)
- has a comfy seat (for rider and pillion)
- has longer service intervals

While the KTM has:
- great suspension
- more lively engine (which in turn vibrates more)
- street cred  :mwink:

Which points are important to you?

If you want to commute....I would look elsewhere. It really sucks for that but if you want an adventure bike to have an awesome time on every time you take it out, the KTM is your bike. Also know this...you will always be dishing out fuel to the other riders when they run out.  ;D

In my opinion, it's a great bike.

If you test ride them both, make sure you take them over some serious dirt......your decision will then be very easy!

What vibration, you dont notice it very after a few rides. Love my 640. Check out the cost of servicing every 5000km
