*The Ultimate DS Bike - 4 year's research*
« on: January 07, 2011, 03:18:48 pm »
After over 20 years of riding bikes and 4 years of modern bike ownership, I have owned the following:

Yahama XT500
Honda 500R
Yamaha TDR 180
BMW GSA 1200
BMW 800 GS
KTM 990
KTM 950
KTM 690
KTM 300 XCW

I have come to the following conclusion after trying lots of combinations.

Old 1980ís bikes are super cool and fun to own, but not for DS biking

There is no ultimate bike. They are either to heavy, too slow, too uncomfortable or too boring.

If you want to ride dunes, mud, enduro tracks and suchlike, youíll have a lot more fun on an enduro bike on the weekends etc.

Riding with mates off-road on a trip is always better with a big trailie and a bottle of Jack.

KTMís beat every other bike hands down, whether enduro or DS.

Jack helps to put all these observations into perspective, hence my fountains of wisdom right this moment.

Pitty all the bikes of the years are so limited to mainly KTM, I guess you have to make do with what you got. :imaposer:
It's not the years in your life that count, its the LIFE in your years that count.

Is this really just a Jack-induced post, or can we comment? Aag, here goes anyway; I did many longish tours on a XT500, and I am talking 5000km jobbies and this was done till very recently. Lots of tar, lots of dirt. Aziko lo problem. By the way, what is D/S?

There is no correct answer to this dilemma I'm afraid.
Each man needs to find what works best for him.

I am about to buy my tenth bike and I am still searching.. the XR600 was a close match to what I like.

I get it now, dual sport is when you can drink AND ride! It is however against the law, why is D/S so popular still?

I completely agree there is no ultimate bike, that's why I have 5 in my garage at the moment. Not sure about the KTM perspective though.
