Great service - Honda Wing George

Just to give praise where praise is due:

As some of you might know I am spending the week at the KKNK before we leave on our big ride to Baviaans, Attakwas and Gamkaskloof on Friday.

I started noticing that my bike smokes a lot when I go down a downhill on compression. Some friends told me not to worry as it's probably valve stem seals which can be looked at after our big trip. Just to be sure I phoned the bike shop in George to get their opinion. Andre, the dealer principle, said that I should not take a chance and offered to send a vehicle all the way to Kango Mountain Resort to pick up the bike and have it looked at.

This morning he told me that they decided to replace the oil rings and that he'll personally make sure that the bike is ready for the big trip on Friday. It?s good to know that there are still dealers out there that understands how important these trips are to us bikers and who go out of their way to make things happen. All this for a lowly CTX rider.

Thanks guys. It's great to have backup like this!  :D  :D  :D

thats great!

how many km do you have on the CTX

and why do i hear about so many new bikes that gives issues

you can name any bike currently on sale and you will find a couple of them that the motor went boom before 20 000km !!!!

whats up with that - were did the motors go that did 100 000km with nothing more than an oil change every now and then?

8000km only, but I'm getting the idea that they are replacing the rings as a precautionary measure. The dealer principle's exact words were: "There is no way a Honda is going to break down on this trip of yours"  :D

That's the spirit - I wonder if this forum had any role to play in that...

In fact, I'd love to know which dealers actively watch this forum...
The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

Just an update - My bike will not be ready before our big trip, so Honda gave me the keys to a new TransAlp and told me to enjoy the trip!

Wow. Wow. Wow.

This is service over and above the norm. Great backup from a great dealer!

Thanks!

Really great service.. but it's been known as a marketing trick.. they hope that you are so reluctant to hand the keys back to them, that  you will want to sign some papers and make the bank happy..

The trip , im sure will be a lot more enjoyable.. :D  :D

Those valves will still give you lots of Sh_t

It's currently a big problem with the midrange Honda thumpers

My TRX450R quad basically has the CRF motor in it and the shims need to be checked every 20 - 30 hours - and now at 115 hours I've just replaced both the inlet valves, shims etc...

I love the Honda but beware !!
Enduroworld did a study last year and according to them, the Honda's were the worst off in the valve problem department
I used to be indecisive, but I'm not so sure anymore

The butcher backed into the meat grinder and got a little behind in his work

On the valve issues, the 250's seem worse than the 450's
Probably because you need to rev it a little to get the most out of it.
