Hi Guys,
Searching the site provided lots of reference to the Carnet, but with some conflicting info... Some say it is needed some say it isn't!
Anyway I contacted the AA (only place where you can get a Carnet booklet) and asked for the official version (Here it is copied from the mail)
Hi Chris
Should you wish to visit Zambia with a SA registered bike going for not longer than 6 months then you’ll pay a R500 deposit.
Should you wish to visit Egypt then the deposit will be 200% to the value of the vehicle.
Should you need more info, please feel free to email me.
Kind regards,
In the query I asked any country not a direct neighbor to SA (such as Zambia).
I read that at some border posts the guys don't even know what the Carnet is, and at some they hold it for a bribe... :-\
Safe riding!
