Shake off some baggage & farts & pick up some memories & dust
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:42:52 am »
After having a very crappy week we needed some stress relieve so Eikeboom, engelsman and myself decided on a saturday ride. Due to CT being so warm we met early at Engelsmans place and by 6.30am we were being blown sideways over Sir Lowry's pass, the plan to zig zag some back roads and watch some racing outside Caledon and the return same-ish. At grabouw we took in some of the nice dusty roads through pine forests crossing the N2 and running along the railwayline to botriver. There we went up Van der Stel Pass nice roads but every now and then hitting a couple of potholes which to wake you up if were gettin to comfy. We stopped for a smoke break sort of in the middle of nowhere and along comes a farmer from the area on his trusty TW200 and tells us about on the bikers riding through the area and how the farms going and how good his TW is. Absolutely nice toppie, did not get his name, "Goed gaan Oom". The need for coffee was now pressing and we headed off to dassiesfontein farmstall for that a toasted bacon &egg. As it was only turning 8 o clock the shop was just opening so Eike decided to amuse us with all the goodies on the stoep while we waited.

So after coffee and a toasted samie we were off towards Caledon cutting accross some very dry and dusty roads. Stopped for a photo with some sheep in the backround and the sheep actually started walking to me, i suppose there is nothing else to chew and Tenere and me started looking mighty fine. At the T juntion with the Bredasdorp and Caledon road we turned towards Caledon and within 10km got to where some quad and offroad racing was taking place. As the quads was on till 12 we hung around for a bit looking at these guys flying around but did not wait for the bikes that was only to start at 1pm. Eike was in top form again with comments, something about a "incoming fax but no paper in the machine" if you know what that means or i will explain that in a PM. Not for public viewing. Drove  off to Caledon for a coke and found a nice spot on the grass at the garage for a bit off R&R as it was towards midday now.

That last pic is to have a caption of a couple of old pumps hanging around. We drove off towards Greyton and on the way there turned up to Villiersdorp, nice fast gravel and not a soul around. Coming out on tar between villiersdorp and grabouw we turned into the pine forrest again getting very technical at time on the fire break roads a few near wipeouts on some serious rocks. Slow but very beautifull. Eike en engelsman trying to ride side by side as to avoid each others dust was quite hillarious at times as i had to hang back for all the dust.

Must see eike's arty side with the photo his was taking here, wow-  he was really in top form again! And engelsman's description of a morris minor stuck in 1st gear verbally will be a laugh for a long time.

Looks like a cool ride - and like you guys appreciated the country you were riding through as well!  Good to see old varsity buddy eikeboom there, he's been a bit quiet on the forum lately.
