Would be nice to have one strapped to the (roof)carrier of my GS to do all the more technical stuff in comfort. :twisted:
BMW to launch 450cc Enduro 12/04/2007 08:02 Tor Sagen
Yet another model has been announced by the German manufacturer, following a string of recent launches. With the 450cc single, BMW is hoping to claim their share of the Enduro segment.
At first I thought the new bike would feature a 450cc V-twin just like Aprilia RXV 4.5, but now it appears to be a more conventional one cylinder four-stroke.
According to BMW the new bike will not sport a Rotax engine, instead the company has opted for an in-house developed single cylinder version.
Since the bike is purely experimental, technical details may still change and background information is somewhat speculative at the moment.
Our BMW factory source told us that BMW would not involve itself in MX just now, but in serious Enduro (competition) and possibly Supermoto.
BMW have a long and successful past in Enduro and rally and it looks like the company now wishes to revive this. It's all a part of the new and sporty BMW image.
"The thing is purely experimental right now, data only exist very roughly and differ from race to race. On April 28th there will be a world-championship-race in Puerto Lumbreras in southern Spain,"
"There the bike will try to gain good results and this will be the first time BMW will officially declare its claim in the field of serious enduro-sports," said BMW?s Markus Biebricher.
"The bike will be limited to that, cross is not in our focus so far, supermoto is thinkable, but not decided on yet. Any further developments will depend on the performance and the results of the bike," he concluded.
BMW explained that all images of the prototype that are in distribution are done by a few freelancers and private people.
According to them the company has not yet produced any pictures of the prototype, but that is likely to change by the end of April at the world-championship.
