Bikes allowed in Postberg reserve (Langebaan)?
« on: April 12, 2007, 04:20:14 pm »
I see in LuckyStriker's "National Parks" thread that the West Coast National Park allows bikes, but in Oppad's recent "flower" thread, he says bikes are not allowed in the Postberg section.

So is Postberg definitely off limits? Anyone else tried there recently...?

Don't know what's been happening recently but will be surprised if the status quo has changed.

Postberg is the peninsula at the far end of the park and does not belong to national parks. An agreement exists between SANP and the trust representing the private landowners on Postberg, to allow visitors to the park access to the peninsula at a certain time of the year (not sure of the dates but that is when the wildflowers bloom). Apparently the private owners are against bikes and has made it part of the agreement.

If you want to change things you will have to start negotiating with the landowners' trust. Hope this helps.

No vehicles whatsoever are allowed into the Postberg section without prior arrangement.
I have ridden my bike through this area (end of 2005)...with permission of course.

We phoned the preacher of the historic missionary curch there and asked to come see him (we were scouting for a church to get married in at the time). He agreed and off we went...

OK, I'll have to find out from my friends who are organizing the weekend exactly where the accommodation is, since I only have to reach that, and then I can hop in someone's car if we do go into Postberg itself...

Thanks, anyway.

I have freinds who have the rights for the house on the furthest inland most Cape Town side of the lagoon, it is very uninhabited, they run kayak trips from langebaan to there and back.

I am not sure if you can ride your bike there but it won't hurt to ask. You could might be able to get to their place with your bikes and stay over and then leave the next day.

I wonder where that gravel road goes? And that, has usually made all the difference. (Apologies to Mr Frost)

Postberg is only open to cars during the "wildflower months" of August and September.
No bikes and no one at all unless prior arrangements are made.

The house on the lagoon looks stunning.
