NO, NO, NO!!!

The moment you abrogate your responsibility as parent to a cop, you give that cop carte blanche to apply violence at will.

We are supposed to live in a civilised country.  And you want the cops to be able to apply violence at a whim.  Shame on you!

agree with you - I would prefer a stupid cop to follow the law - if the law is not tough enough, toughen it, not the cowboys that should ensure all are equal under the law - if not, where do you draw the line? do you trust where each cop draws the line? I wouldn't....

As much as I would like them to be beaten to a pulp, when the defense hears about the beating, they will get off scott-free.  (And when last did you see a SA cop actually respond to a break-in??)

But, we are talking about kids exceeding the speed limit and being stupid as kids are.  (I was also once a dumb kid).
Do you want each kid that does something dumb to be assaulted by cops?

He got a "slap" not a punch, kick or beaten to a pulp, the cop probably did what I and many other bikers would have done if I saw an idiot kid do that. It would be more out of "what the fuck were you doing you bloody fool!" rather than any abuse of power or anything of the like, that story is going to be blown out of proportion as it already appears to have been here. Besides, if the kid had just stood up, he would still be wearing his helmet.......

Poor cop, he, to an extent, was actually doing his job unlike others.
Donít worry about things that arenít, worry about things that are and your decisions are so much easier to make!

I think the response to this would of been vastly different if it had been someones wife or daughter that had been assaulted.
The law needs to apply equally to all , if you wouldn't want it done to your family (male or female) members, it shouldn't be done to anyone.
Is this earth and do I live here?

I was in st 9 when my friend and I was sitting in Hermanus police cells because of a attempted "runner" on a bike. My friend gave either Pannie or Roger[the then 2 Hermanus top cops] a cheeky answer and promptly got a grondvellende seksueel georienteerde klap. Those guys did not take kak and you really tried not to fall out of favour with them. Only one way to not fall out of favour with them, obey the rules!!

Of course I do not know the full story, this only the people directly involved will know. What I do know for sure is that this kid learnt a great deal more from this incident than should he have been apprehended in the "correct" way, treated civilly and given a fine that daddy paid.

The bleeding heart press are going to have a field day with this one. I feel sorry for the cop. The kids / young adults / teenagers today seem to think that the world owes them something, they can say and do as they wish, irrespective of how it affects anyone else. Common courtesy, good manners and respect for both self and others seem to be a thing of the past. Who is to blame? The kids - I think not. One needs to look at their parents.
Send them on one of my two week survival courses. Ummmmm, maybe not, some of them might not come back. :mwink:

Billbob, fully agreed. I have lived in Stellenbosch for 50 years and the change in student attitudes are shocking. I spoke to a guy very high up at University of Stellenbosch and he said that what is also happening is that the state of other universities is below what they use to be, so parents from all over SA now send their little ones to one of the best remaining varsities, US. Thes are mostly very wealthy people and the gap between rich and poor student is shocking. No surprise to see 1st years in BMW x3/5's or Touareg even! A friend use to work for US security dept., and he tells me of the supreme arrogance of these kids, who were raised with the idea that you take or break what you want  and money will put things straight. To make matters worse is that there is no law with bite for these kids.
