ENGINE REBUILD DR 750 SPARES ?
« on: April 05, 2011, 05:51:36 am »
Morning tech dogs, its time to do the dr engine I just returned from a weekend to the south coast, bike was running sweet but using more oil than my vmx 2 strokes, so i want to pull the motor do a piston , top end, etc, My question is spares availability, I can get quite a lot from the agents at a premium, i am looking for some aftermarket options on the spares, all ideas welcome
thanks

DR BIG I know Niku has some spares or at least a complete running chassis for one of these bikes. Contact him, I am sure he would like to get rid of it if he still has it.

do the entire engine

7 out a 10 times you do the top end (piston, rings, etc) soon after the big end bearing collapse due to the higher compression etc

do it all first time round then you know its good as new  :thumleft:

Was looking on the 'Net for you mate - can't find any local info

I still reckon Runner will have all the info for you close at hand - 'cos as you know - he did my motor from top to bottom
Even if you don't take it to him to do - at least he might part with the supplier info ( if you ask nicely & feed him Jack Daniel's)

Need to find parts urgent, after the Margate trip washed the bike has not started since, after going through all the normal water related problems still nothing 3 weeks later the swamps would have dried by now. Decided to check the compression only showing about 1.5 b amazing she still ran. Going to pm Runner for spare part advise any other advise welcome.

After looking at DR BIGS engine sitting in the garage for 3 months not starting, I realised positive thinking was not going to fix it. so opened the tool box & a hour or so later I was looking at piszilla king of pistons, bore 105mm . i have lost compression & was using plenty oil. nothing visible will do all measurements to day get the head done, plenty carbon build up in head, piston, ring gaps, etc. so hope for the best ,summer is coming need to ride, will keep you posted ,all comments ideas welcome .note the windhoek lager in the cylinder
almost riding again

Oil could be the valve stem seals as well. I think a top end rebuild is in order for the Desert Express  :thumleft:

took the head/ barrell in today, will hone out & measure for tolerences, rings locally available R800. FU#$%^& ME valve stems seals also, so will do head , also sent the cam in for a clean up, little mark, the rockers should be good according to vd linde cams & crankshafts, so i hope it sgood for a hone only & rings .1st oversize kit is R3500, or import for about 2k. holding thumbs , valve stems seals also x stock R39.00 each
getting closer

Got the cam back clean up the profile at vd linde conversions R 450+ there share, check the piston & bore all sweet going to hone & fit new rings, all ordered x stock Suzuki, farkinf exp R900 rings only, doing the valve stem seals also available only R 39.00 from agents  the inlet valves are history checking Suzuki for stock or I will get them made up, so far so good. I better to frame mods soon the motor is going quite quick ,going to fit the big pegs like one of the DR 350 guys did think it was Ganjora must check again. changing the front caliper at best it makes the front forks dive & the speed slowly bleeds off I think some one fitted Harley brakes at some stage
till the next post happy spanner swinging :ricky:

Put this piston & barrell back last night, going fetch head & cam today, bore & piston was well in spec gave it a hone & put new rings, even without a head on turn the motor it sucks like like hoover on a Bangkok beach, the inlet valves are u/s cant focus the pic on the end of the valve but they are seriaasly faaaarked,
