When and where?

The trial is this Sunday on a farm between Stellenbosch/kuilsriver/Kraaifontein (see directions below).
It starts (slowly) at 10am with all the riders going through the 8 sections with some discussion & as a group, then (11:00ish) itís done at a faster pace another 3 times & should end around 13:00. 5 of the sections are close together & is spectator friendly, the other 3 sections are on a another hill close by. It's ridden in a continuous loop.

The venues do rotate, to give the riders & the land owners a change/break. See the pics (will upload when photobucket is back online) of the previous trial in Klein Constancia.
The regional trials are every 3rd Sunday of the month & with a course setup on every 2nd Sunday of the month (until Nov)
Spectators are most welcome, to come watch & if you enjoy it, buy/borrow a bike & come ride! It's informal, yet organised (like golf, only alot more fun... :ricky:). A good second hand trials bike costs R20 - R45k, older for R15k & new for R63k.
The venues are closed otherwise, please don't pitch up with a bike at any other time (besides coming on your bike as a spectator or riding a trial bike on event days :) ), we get to ride in magnificent places, cause the bike are so quiet & easy on the environment. Ie special permission is granted for trial days.

There are 3 classes (clubman [white flag], Expert [yellow flag], masters [blue flag]) & is relatively easy to start riding as a novice (camber turns, rocky bits, etc) It's not timed, so it's slow & technical.

Scoring:
dab = 1 point (max 3 points)
Dismount/stall backwards/miss course flag = 5
Best score per section = 0, worst = 5 (x 8 sections x 4 loops)
The goal is to have a low score & get better with each round, as you get more tired...

Trials is a small group at the moment in the Cape, JHB is big & PE too. Please come join us, we would love to grow the sport here! More competition... . One can also share a bike with another rider. Trials does wonders for your skills development & quickly too.

Come check it out...  Also the master riders are very entertaining, hopping their bikes around tight corners as if they are on a pogo stick... climbing high vertical stuff... drop offs... very inspiring  :ricky:

Directions to Bonthuys farm:
"DIRECTIONS TO KUILS RIVER VENUE.  WELGELEGEN FARM
(J BONTHUYS)

Take N1 from Cape Town
Take Exit 32 and turn right on the M15 Van Riebeeck Road towards Kraaifontein.
You will cross over Frans Conradie Drive and then Voortrekker Road.
Keep on this road until you reach Bottlerey Road. (5.7 km from Exit 32).
Turn left on Bottlerey Road (M23) for 2 km.
Turn right at Steeneveld Road.  It is a gravel road. (small green Bonthuys sign on R)
The gravel road becomes brick paved and goes past a B&B.  There is then a fork in the road and it reverts to gravel.
Take the left fork.  It is sign posted Welgelegen J Bonthuys.  The farmhouse is a further kilometre. If the security gate is closed, then ask for Jean or Francois. Turn left on the first road and proceed to a small forested area which is where most of the sections usually are."

So I made a draai and I can tell you that Etienne can ride that thing!  Great to watch the older guys teaching and encouraging the youngsters.  It's a shame that Trials is not more popular here. It's cheap, it's fun and you get to ride stuff that enduro guys can't in some of the most lekker settings.
Well done, Etienne!

Well done Etienne2T
You are a very talented young man! :thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft:

I am going to start a trials class for fat bearded bikers - first section will be circling the parking area with no obstacles, and then we will work our way up, might even include getting onto grass and off again - dangerous stuff like that!

No seriously - If I have a few rand spare I will get an old trials bike and give it a non-competitive try - it looks like a hellova lot of fun!
