Been to a few rallies but usually enjoyed the smaller rallies more Baboon rally being one of note. I attended the Buff a few years ago but doubt I'll do it again, 3 hours sleep in 2 days is not good. Was a good joll though anyway..

This is actually a very good discussion thread.

I used to go to a few rallies, mainly Eastern Cape, down to George, Oudtshoorn and inland.

Did not particularly enjoy them, and walk away when the kark starts to hit the fan.

I guess just like DS bikes have certain rider types, and others will go for Harleys, rallies have an attraction for some.

Mostly, I will give them a miss.

Been going to rallies for 30 years + Enjoy meeting old friends, staying out of harms way, dopping Rum, talking sh*t, and sleeping off site where it is quiet. Been going to the smaller one's lately, but never try to miss a Buff. The Baboon is as far as I am concerned # 1

There is not much difference between the WD bashes and rallies.

I beg to differ, especially the FS Bash, there is absolutely no hooligan behavior or excessive noise at all hours of the night..... :peepwall:

+1000

On a Bash it is a social, organized get together - with none of that "I am tougher than you attitude"  :patch:
I get a lot of stop overs from bikers going to rallies - (keep in mind I also bike so should be more open to any bikers)  BUT - I FULLY understand why bikers get a poor name looking and listening to the way the rally crowd talks to you.  :-\

Huge difference IMHO.

Mmm...a couple of us went to the Springbok Rally last year near Oudshoorn & i must say i enjoyed it. It was not a huge thing but had all the services required :thumleft:
Nice to have an organised base from which to ride....i did De Hell from there for the first time. :)

Would i go to another Rally...yes of course...but there has to be a decent Outride in a nice geographical area.

:imaposer: It's also nice just to sit & watch the world go by! :laughing4: Vrek but there's some characters out there...

I have been to plenty of rallies but fortunately it was to work or to deliver something. I have been to one near Hartebeespoort once as spectator but it was to take the wife and show her why we don't go to rallies. She was forever nagging me to go as she would see the ad's in the Bark SA, so I took her  >:D we stayed for about 15min before she said can we please leave as she is feeling dirty. Drunk people revving claped out bikes @ 9am, and that was the end of rallying for us.
Nee wat pappa sal nie kry nie!!
But for me, it's like a night out with a porn star, every time I press that starter button. Schneller! Schneller! Tiefer! Ja, ich bin geil! Ich komme!  >:D

Was al so mmm ek dink 4 rallies gewees.

Never underestimate the power of kindness!

Been to a couple of WD bashes and been to the Route62 Harley-Davidson Rally and enjoyed all of them. At all of these it was a hell of a party :occasion14: but the people basically behaved themselves.

Never been to a roadie Rally officially and not interested quite frankly. Had a look see at the Buff twice (just riding around town) and by chance another at Worcester once (cant remember the name) but it's not my scene at all. Partying hard is one thing, but falling down drunk people, vomit on the pavement etc. is DEFINITELY not my scene. I have much better things to do with a weekend.

I guess the types differ at these types of gatherings, but with the accelerated growth of the DS sector it's probably only a matter of time before we get all types and some bashes turn into rally type gatherings anyway, so it's not about choosing between a bash or rally, it's about choosing between events.

Been to 2 or 3 barksa rally's, can't really say why.. First was an "experience" (like when you try something new). You do see things you will never see or experience otherwise! Will NEVER ref my bike like that!

Normally also see the sights in the area during the day, and walk around at night laughing at people  >:D

"*Unique*" things I have seen at barksa rally's:

Drunk bodybuilder doing a stage dive and the crowd parting like the red sea. He hit the ground solid & horizontal, and I wet myself laughing.
Group of friends booking their one piss-horing-poep-dronk friend in for a tattoo at one of those tattoo caravans at 02H00, a nice large swastika carrying eagle thing which ended up having squonk wings... I stood outside with the "friends" laughing as hard as they were!  :eek7:
Still wondering why any-one would pay 50 Ront for a cheap shooter and a tit in your ear...  :patch:
Seeing a harley being revved for about 5 minutes, the pipes were blood-cherry RED!! Okes were lighting their sigarettes off of the pipe! Then seeing it being loaded onto a bakkie the next morning ::)

No immediate plans to attend another just yet......

Been to plenty and love them - if you part of the club scene - you know a lot of people there and they are like family - much like the WD's are - rowdy crazy family.

At most the roadies look worse than they are and have never had any problems at a rally and wont find a friendlier bunch of people generally.

All about going crazy and letting your hair down.

But them again I am as kommin as they come so yep - I don't care much about image to other people hahahahahaahahhaa
Cash, Gas or Ass............ no-one rides for free :-)

I did it because I can, I can because I want to and I want to because you said that I couldn't !!!!!!!

My take and I will probably be crucified for saying this, but IMHO there is nothing more common than a burnout!!! :pot: :mwink:

I am an unrehabilitated(if there is such a nice word ;D) perfectionist and don't like to see things being farked up or destroyed and I guess that is where the hatred for it all starts. :'( :'(

Secondly what is the point?I just don't get it! Is it my tyre is warmer as joune or what not? :o :o :o

It's not the years in your life that count, its the LIFE in your years that count.

Like Irish, I also love machines and the olden day rallies, while very rough, would offer you the chance to see some really individual examples of customized bikes, Sanders and Lewis GT750's, Rickman Kawas and Hondas, etc. Nowadays all superbikes look alike and they are so well built anything you change on them is a step backward. Look at D/S bikes, 990's all look alike AFTER being individually farkled, same for GS, etc.. No more major surgery, unless you have major money. And today's kids do not know what troublemaking means :pot:
