Botswana: Kasane, Vic Falls, south via Zim
« on: April 13, 2011, 07:13:54 pm »
Flights booked, bike sorted so...

From Kasane in Bots the road south back to SA looks a bit dull, (we're doing a clockwise circuit) so would it be better/more interesting to go to see Victoria Falls and then head south through Zimbabwe.  Seems Zim is improving but don't want to take too many chances with Mrs Three Dawg and rental bike.  All advice appreciated.

You are so close to the falls might as well go visit it  :thumleft:
Do sundowner cruise on Zambezi or just a cold one at a pub watching the setting sun

Been to Zim in Dec..No major issues..
However returning via Beitbridge expect to spend some time. Took us 4 hours to clear both sides.

For sure, although there are various options, but I understand that they're better from the Zim side at that time of year so hey, why not ride in?

I heard the border could be interesting, better sack up after the non existant customs here in Europe!

Was also up there in December. Don't stress. The countryside is still lovely, the people friendly. Fuel is a bit of a problem if you go off the main routes, otherwise not a problem. Use USA$ not SA Rands as their exchange rate is a bit of a rip off 10 to 1. If possible try and not stay in the major towns / cities. :thumleft:

US$ to exchange or to pay directly (ie at gas stations)?

Never thought I'd ever be contemplating setting foot in Zim.  Motorbikes eh?

They are using USA$ as their currency. You pay directly to the supplier for goods purchased. Everything is priced in USA$. If you want to pay in SA Rands then they multiply by 10.
