With a few manufacturers moving towards Retro bikes and some going back to the Old Classics e.g. XR650L, it got me thinking about what the general consensus is on this trend. An example from the bicycle history books is the classic old Raleigh Chopper that a lot of us rode as school kids. They re-lauched this bike a few years back but sales have been pathetic, partly due to technology moving on and kids interests changing but also due to the bike having slight mods that didn't have the same appeal e.g. grip shift gear changer instead of a stick shift etc.
I'm guessing it's similar in the motorcycling world, with the bikes looking the same but yet having slight variances e.g. water cooled instead of air... or a much better suspension etc. Although often an improvement, this somehow distracts from what attracted us to the bike in the first place.

What's your feeling on the subject?
