The Wilddog ROAD RUNNING Thread
« on: April 20, 2011, 09:50:21 am »
I see that there are quite a number of dogs doing the running thing, or did the running thing 25kg's ago

I am one of those, I used to run a pretty mean 10k (34min) and a lekker 21.1k @ 1:31, but now I sit at 100kg and kak off when I have to run up the stairs. I am quite ashamed of this I have to admit.   :-[ :-[ :-[

So......... I have started again, very slowly, doing more walking than running, but will get back into full on Running mode in a few months. My goal is to run the Harrismith Mountain Race on 8 October. I have done this race 16 times in a row (1992 - 2007) and it is very hard, but I love it.

So guys and girls, please share your running tips, progress, history, future plans, races, training, shoes, everything and anything to do with Running here. I know we have a few Comrades Green Number Men here on the forum as well.

Fire away!

KK,

Same story here. About 30kg's ago I could easily do 4min a k on a 21.1, but now I can't run 3k's without stopping 3 times.

Will dust of my Asics on Monday and start huffing and puffing on the treadmill. Let's get started.

Great fret  :thumleft:

I am also going mostly on the treadmill currently, out on the road it is a very different story, the treadmill is waaaay easier.

I also needed new shoes, and I am also an Asics fan I have tried every other shoe brand on the market, from Nike, Addidas, New Balance, Saucony, Brooks, you name it, but Asics are just the bees knees

I went and got myself a pair of GT-2160's - awesome shoe.

After 15min on a treadmill I'm tired, that machine does not do it for me.

From edgy's thread:

Go to a dedicated running shop, not sportsman warehouse or Total Sports, they don't know their product.

This part is crucial!!!

Those "casuals" don't know fark-all.

Luckily I know a bit and I know my foot type and running style, so I do all my research online and narrow down my choice of shoe, I then go to Sportsmans Warehouse, try them on and choose my shoe.......on my own

The dedicated running shop that I support here in PTA, is an average of R250+ per pair cheaper than Sportmans & Total Sport.   And they don not stock the "2E Asisc" I want.

I don't like it that much either, but for starting out again (3rd time this year  ::)) it's ok. Easy on the knees and helps to get the legs in shape. Will try to do a month @ 3-4 times a week, 15-20 min a time and then hit the road in month 2.

Moet natuurlik ook probeer om minder te vreet.

This is what I am doing as well.

20min on the bicycle and 20min on the Treadmill 4 days a week, I have done this now for the month of April. Next week I am increasing to 30min on the treadmill and 20min on the bicycle. I always train with a heart rate monitor and I keep a close watch on my HR. I try to keep it between 70%-80% of MaxHR.

I will keep this up to end of May, increasing my time on the treadmill up to 20min treadmill, 20 bicycle and then 20min treadmill again. But I watch the HR all the time, if it goes to high I slow the pace down. It won't be too long before I can run the entire 20mim with my HR between 70-80%. At the moment I walk quite a bit.
