Listened on the radio yesterday to a topic which would be of interest to all of us, although a good many of Wilddogs would scoff and turn a blind eye. The talk was on the suitability of a particular motorcycle to a particular rider/riding style. It was mentioned how the industry is of course not helping at all, and keep selling these highly unsuitable bikes to riders of dubious talent/experience. Often to salve their own consciences, a rider course would be offered. Of what value is this riding course if you do it a day or 2 and then are left up to your own devices to practise what you were taught? Many riders do not do enough kms to keep these training principles fresh in the mind, and they are certainly not going to go out and ride over logs, etc., with no instructor at hand.
Which brings me to the 100% thing, IMO if your bike weighs more than double your own bodyweight, it is careful time on dirtrides. Here lies a big problem, bikes are bought for comfort, ability to do distance at speed , and of course, pose value. A motorcycle designed to travel tar at 160+ comfortably will have a number of built-in design limitations that will make it quite unsuitable for dirt road work. Unless you take it real slow.
Only sensible replies please. :pot:
