One of the drawbacks of working from home is that you don't have to commute

I commute every day as well, come hell or high water... not that I have a choice - I've never owned a car, but I would ride every day if I had a car anyway.  This is partly the reason why I don't have a car yet - what's the point in spending X thousand rand on something that's going to sit in the garage gathering dust, while I'm out on the bike... ummm... gathering dust  :D

Edit: Just saw Hermanator's post, and thought it to be a good idea.  I'm between Simon Vermooten on the N4 and Botha on the N1, south-bound in the mornings...Usually on a silver KLE500, sometimes on a blue Z750S, and every now and then on something completely different for a couple of days (current flavour for the week: Orange Versys).  And now I have me a reflective www.wildog.za.net ( ) vest!
The three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40 and a hammer.  If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape.  If it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.  Otherwise use the hammer.

Use the Strom for commute and DS riding and the 1150RT for touring. Have exellent foul weather gear (Frank Thomas Aqua suit) which, after riding for five hours in rain, proved to be 100% waterproof.

Now I no longer own a car as it sits unused so wife got to consolidate her pennies and the proceeds from my car and she now has the "family" car. Although she doesn't ride (even pillion), she still refers to them as "our" bikes. Now when and where did that cr@p come from!

Mine's the Strom on the R27 headedtowards Cape Town every morning.

I ride every day..I own 1 bike and 1 car.

I travel from Honeydew area through randburg to corlett drive.

I will not commute stuck in a cage very soon. 30 minutes VS 90 minutes for 23 km.. you do the math..

I commute by bike for 3 weeks and then don't commute at all for the next 3. One bad thing about working from home is I rarely get to ride....
Don't look back, that's not where you're going.

Centurion to Jhb central, just about every day for the past 2 years plus, only use the cage under protest or if it is realy pouring rain when I leave in the morning.  40 min vs approx 2 hours and getting up @ 05:00 in the morning to leave before 06:00? No choice!

Ride every single day - about 60 round trip. If it rains I take the Dakar. On nice days I take the HUSKY.  I sold my car 3 years ago because traffic made me insane. Was my wife's idea (bless her soul!) to get a bike to get home earlier to spend time with the family..... Haven't looked back since
couldn't fix my brakes so I made my horn louder

I commute on the bike when I feel like it. More so in the summer. The winter is too dangerous with us often having ice and frost on the road. It also depends on the weather... if it is raining, I take the car. I do not really have a traffic problem... just occationally there will be a 5 minute jam at the Swiss / French border, but on the whole, it is not too bad.

Hello Kev, nice to see you on this site too, a fellow SE thrasher!

I sold both my V-strom 650 (great bike) and Honda CRF450X (awesome) to buy the 950 SE and then fitted it with a 33L GIVI Top Box so that I could use the bike for EVERYTHING including commuting, adventure rides or playing in the bush. So far so good, I use it about 2-3 times a week to go to work and almost every Sunday (Saturday is family day) on a fun-ride of some sort. The SE is the most exciting bike I've ever owned, and I've had everything from Motocrossers to full-blown Superbikes. AND I think she's just gorgeous! :D
