Pic Request: Namibia Fish River crossing
« on: May 04, 2011, 05:22:45 pm »
Hi

Does anyone have a picture crossing the fishriver on the "closed" road from Vioolsdrift to Rosh Pinah taken this easter in Namibia? I didn't have time to take one.

Sorry that the really nice KTM picture has the Fish River in the back ground.

I wonder where that road goes? And that, has usually made all the difference. Appologies to Mr Frost

There you go!  ;D ;D ;D
Until yesterday I wouldn't have known what you were talking about but your luck is in.
I lent my camera to WD Abel and he just came back from a Namibian trip yesterday.
The pic was taken on their way up on 2011-04-22.

The approaches that had been swept away were filled up with sand, about 4m deep and 100m long.
They all made it over with the bikes, as well as a bakkie with back-up trailer (but only just).

You owe us each a beer for the prompt info  :ricky:

Agreed Kamanya that ktm is looking awesome on the fish river banks. Sprocketbek, the crossing was way more washed out when we crossed on the 26nd, but still awesome pic and always willing to buy fellow dogs a couple of beers, let me know where and when..  We had mixed comments from travelers on the the condition of the road and in the end it turned out to be most fun piece of road we had on the whole trip.

This was the day after the buldozed the sand in place, otherwise we would not have been able to cross without going through deep water.
We have some video clips of going through the sand somewhere.
Blessed are the Cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

They have fixed the crossing but the road is still 'closed' - beautiful road came in from Rosh Pinah side - its was like entering Mordor
