Yoyo, some guys have serious issues here. Why ride in a group then?

Was thinking the same thing.

Strue!  I don't get out on dirt with the bike nearly enough, so when I can join a ride I'm just pathetically happy to be riding...

Reading through this thread reminded me of why I rather ride solo. I ride for enjoyment and relaxation. I don't need to be stressed out. Should I ride in a group I believe and try to follow the following guidelines;-
No one gets left behind
You ride at the speed of the slowest rider
You are responsible for the rider behind you - wait at every turn off so that they don't miss it
Each riders problems are the groups problems - you help each other
Be helpful not critical, we all have the same passion but each of us is different
Refreshments are important :mwink:

its true, i mostly also solo, but riding in a group also has its advantages...i think you learn from other riders, and they do push you to do better sometimes...also nice to have comapny at night when you stop riding...as oppose to solo, where you start chatting to strangers in a bar...like some dememted pensioner...

This thread irritates me. When you go for a ride things will happen that you are not happy with. Deal with it. Remember about pointing a finger, there are 3 (hopefully) pointing back at you.

Try and not piss people off.

This is why I started the thread.

Maybe you recognize something here that you do unknowingly. It might help you to improve the ride for other people next time.

What can get my goat is that special type who has everything (especially most of the unnecessary stuff), knows it all, is narcissistic and likes everything just so and tries to insist that everyone else should do like wise. Pretty inflexible. Advice given to him is often seen as an insult. He's harmless and mildly irritating when everything is going well but when he starts to struggle or a piece of his kit fails it's suddenly everyone else's fault and the temper and moods appear. The kind of okes that would get eaten first on a desert island.

Actually, thinking about it, these types are found everywhere so bike specific irritations to me are;

The guy wants to borrow everything because he is willfully/lazily unprepared.
People who have no mechanical sympathy.
Those who disappear from the group without telling anyone.
Piss pot helmets

I wonder where that gravel road goes? And that, has usually made all the difference. (Apologies to Mr Frost)

I'm not going to say. What are we to do when we do end up on that desert island? If I tell, he may not have then gotten the invite and we'll all go hungry!

"Desert" as a verb sounds the same as "dessert" as the final course, but is spelt the same as "desert" as a noun. Bad grammar irritates me, but if I correct everyone, thenthey won't lend (not borrow)me their tyre levers.  :peepwall:
