ROUTE DIFFICULTY:1 = tar
2 = good gravel /pillion friendly
3 = interspersed with sand, mud, sand , bush / not pillion friendly
4 = lots of sand, technical riding
5 = expert only (we are not worthy, still to meet one)

SE dry weight = 185kg. Plus fuel (safari tank) = 215kg

ADV dry weight = 198kg. Plus fuel = 219kg

Only advantage is the SE suspension. Admittedly superior. But who uses all of its capability anyway?

Disadvantages of the SE = many!

Gaan koop weer 'n GS wortels. Miskien kan jy die Katberg doen in minder as drie dae met die pig?

Well now...compared to the 950 ADV...

The SE is tall (I don't mind that. My 300 is taller)
The SE is very uncomfortable - my ass was reamed after 50 kms  You sir have a soft ass
The SE's Safari tank makes standing in the correct postion almost impossible youre position is wrong then
The SE's aftermarket windscreen rattled and wobbled like jelly, and caught me right up the nostrils never desighned with aftermarket screen in mind and keep you're nostrils closed
The SE's reaction to wind buffeting was disturbing this can be traced to the type of tyre on the SE I have felt various degrees of buffeting on different tyres
The SE's pipes burnt my leg standard pipes have the CAT installed and tends to get very hot this fact is remedied with aftermarket cans and decent riding pants
The SE can't go anywhere my ADV can't. I admit that me on mine probably cant but putting a proper rider on an SE will show you that the 2 bikes can not really be compared...Put Kamaya on a SE and you will see what he'll be able to do
the Safari has a 30 l capacity which you can use on long trips but you can decide to put in 10 or 15l of fuel if you are going to do more technical riding so it's youre choice
question: Why would KTM enter the SE in races like Erzberg instead of the Adventure
I was going to try and buy an SE. Not anymore.

But you can't ride, so surely you shouldn't actually comment on any bikes?

Your test is incomplete, did you use the SE for touring or riding srerious off-road for which it was designed? And how does the wind, seat and fuel range compare with a 2 HP?
That said, try buying a SE, for all their kakness they're pretty scarce.
My 2 pence worth....

My goodness...

It looks like the 950SE owners club might just be more touchy than the GS club ?
