This is my very first attempt at doing a ride report (& I haven't quite got the nack of including the photos into my Report, along with the writing),.... so I hope that it'll be enjoyed by all that read it. I don't have any of my own photos of the Event,..... as I was too occupied with the commitments I had (... the joy's of being part of the Organising Committee... : ;D),.... but I will be posting a few of the photos that I managed to get from a few people form the day.
Please feel free to place your contributions (photos & video) as well as any comment you might have,.. that will help us to make next year's Event even Bigger & Better. After all,.... the MAIN Important thing here, is that with all of us "uniting together", we will be able to raise as much money as possible,... in order to support the various Charity's that are nominated.
Here goes,.....
On Sunday morning 15th May 2011, Air Force Base Ysterplaat (Cape Town) hosted the "Feed a Child Motorcycle Ride" the form of our very first Motorcycle Charity Fundraising Event.
The gates to the Base opened @ 07h00 & I must admit,..... after seeing the weather that we were granted,..... I had my doubts that there was going to be a lot of support towards our Event.
None the less, we all remained positive & 100% committed (in true Military Style :mwink: ;D) to making this Event a Successfull one. Pretty soon the bikes started rolling into the Base in front of No.11 Hanger, where everyone was able to register, have some nice warm coffee, light snacks & mingle.
The Base OC (Col Cowan) opened the day & welcomed everyone, followed by Lt Col Danie Sutherland (Chairperson of the Event & my Unit OC) explained the details of the event to everyone. After that, Mr Fred Cheetham (Marshling Coordinator for the Event) then went through the Safety Briefing & information of the Route.
Around 09h30, everyone was ready in the departure shoots & we were then escorted by both Provincial & CT Traffic Department, out of the Base & onto the planned route.
The route was as follows:
Out of AFB Yplt into Koeberg Road, onto Table Bay Blvd, through into CT City center, up towards Table Mountain, over Kloof Neck, down the other side into Camps Bay, along the coast towards Llandudno & down into Hout Bay. From there we proceeded up & over Chapmans Peak Drive, down into Noordhoek, left into Silvermine Road & over Ou Kaapse Weg. On the other side we then proceeded all the way along the M3 all the way past Rhodes Memorial & UCT where we took the Oswald Pirrow offramp & connected back onto Table Bay Blvd. Took the Brookland offramp, back into Koeberg Road, back into AFB Yplt where I took over from the Traffic Dept by leading all 250 bikes down the Main Runway, after which we all stopped in front of No.11 Hanger.
Here are a few photos in the mean time. I will continue tomorrow with more info on the Event as well as some more photos.
