Upbeat South Africans now have something else to crow about apart from a peaceful and successful election - it's a brand-new mega-dealership just opened in Johannesburg – the first of its kind anywhere in the world!
The new World of Yamaha is a towering structure in Marlboro, Sandton, alongside one of Johannesburg’s main highways – the M1.
You see, the showroom is basically a giant Yamaha marketing exercise featuring practically every one of its products.
There are two-wheeled specimens in the form of scramblers and superbikes alongside some serious quads and more sedate golf cars. Jet skis, powerboats and marine engines have their place, too, and there’s a concept store to sort you out with any kit required for your various thrill-seeking pursuits.
Across the floor, musical and audiovisual products take up chunks of floor space, complete with separate, soundproof demonstration lounges.
The site also has a cinema and a coffee bar for Yamaha enthusiasts who prefer taking it easy.
Managing director of Yamaha Distribution SA Ian Pears said the showroom’s unveiling was also in celebration of 50 years of Yamaha in South Africa. The first motorcycle showroom was opened in Durban in 1962.
Showing just how far the brand’s come in the past few decades, the opulent new showroom marries Yamaha’s SA's interests into one facility. It is, under the auspices of parent company Bidvest, the only distributor in the world to hold distribution rights to both brands – the mechanical and music brands are, in fact, separate.
Pears and his contemporaries at Yamaha Distributors seem immensely proud of this distinction and this shows in their towering new world-class achievement.
