Its Here ! But Alas Piet Skiet , was not !

8am sharp Leftless , AntonW and I met up at the Total garage in Richwood. My Destination originally was Elandsbaai via Aurora.
We decided to start at with the route to Aurora and go up to the Mountain to the Military Base.
I`ve seen it from Kapteinskloof mountain Pass before.
Wow , what a lekker road up and some surprising chalets  for up there for hire !
Info to follow.
But then that was after AntonW `s  KTM cooked its battery .
After some attempts at the wiring , we gave up and Leftless towed his bike back to Koringberg,
We called Pistonpete who promptly jumped into his bakkie and came out to fetch Antons bike (Must be a KTM thing ! lol),
Your the man Pete ! Thanks.
The Bikes

OOPS !Rotten Eggs , no ! A boiling Battery !

Eish ! My Bike she`s broken , Again !!!

After Antons bike was towed to town  and dropped if off at a restaurant , ( for breakfast ), we carried on with our route.
We got to our bridge over the Berg River , but had to turn around as the bridge was a meter or so under water.

So we headed back toward Koringberg and took a left down the alternative route, where we managed to cross the Berg River.
We headed to Aurora on a boring tar road.

The road up the Aurora mountain , was a dirt road , I was expecting a tar road as it goes up to and  Airforce Radar station.
It was quite a twisty , steep corrugated road , with a magnificent view,

There are two small looks that you ride through on the way up

At the top of the Mountain We discovered Annes Little piece of Heaven "Mountan Mist"
A Mountain Retreat , With Chalets Fully Equipped , Self-Catering Cabins.
She offered to make to make Burgers for us , if we decided sometime in the future to come for a sleep over in her chalets .
We went on to the end of the road where we took some pics of the Awesome Views from one of the chalets.

I have stayed with Ann at Mountain Mist many times - it makes for an awesome weekend away - cheap, close to cape town and very beautiful

... and if you ask nicely Ann may just share some of her own "holy herb" that she grows herself on top of that mountain - good shit that !

on AntonW's bike - I can almost guarantee that the regulator rectifier is f%$#d and is overcharging the battery - very common on these bikes cos the rectifier sits above the exhaust header for the rear cylinder and is in constant heat soak (which it hates). I have already replaced mine on my bike and am seriously looking at a mod to move it somewhere else, possibly under the seat far away from the exhaust or into some nice air stream where it can stay cool.

Anton - ask Krog to replace it with a MOSFET rectifier off a current superbike - it is a super reliable digital thingy that will never break (according to Superfoxi)

Andy, Leftless and Anton - looks like another awesome ride that I missed ! Damn ! Thanks for sharing

It was 2008 when myself, PP & others stayed there.

Definitely want to go again.
From what I recall only the brick house has a fireplace, the wood chalets have an outside braai. One is supposed to bring your own wood but by prior arrangement Ann can supply some.
Can get frikken cold in winter, a bit more wood would have been better.

Our river crossing bridge , Before and Yesterday

Eeish... Great example of how potentially dangerous it could be to attempt a ride over a submerged bridge without carefully checking it out! See the sharp drop-offs on either side  :deal:  :o  ;D

That mountain view looks incredible. Thanks for sharing Andy.

It is the recitfier, and the problem is caused by the HID. Mine is switching on and off (faulty) causing votage changes blowing the chip. They are puting a sensor on with a LED on the dash which will glow red and blue, showning over and under voltage. When it is completed I will let you know the outcome.

As for the Tenere' I was secretly eyeing the HP2.   :imaposer:

They're Mitas C02.  A brilliant tyre.

Hi Andy

What tyres do you have on looks nice
I do not think they will last on anything bigger than 650cc bikes, try the E-09 en ek dink die kans is goed om eerder vir ou Piet Skiet te vang as vir ou Hennie Bosch....... :peepwall:

The merits of the C02 have been discussed at length elsewhere.  Yes, they're best for 650s and below.  Bigger bikers pull them to pieces.

For:
They have epic grip off-road.  Brilliant in sand.  The best I've used.
They are surprisingly long-lasting and quite cheap.

Against:
They're better than some knobblies on tar, but not great.
They break up if under-inflated and/or driven at high speed for long periods. (They're rated at 130kph)
They tend to weave horribly for the first few hundred kays until the roundness wears down a bit.

When the tyre is worn down a bit they can take a lot of abuse, but be very gentle when new.  Keep inflated to 1.5 bar or above for road use.
