:lamer: I got a 'very bad' 'skrik' in Mitas - no thanks!! No details - sorry! All I'll say is that I would rather stick to the Maxxis then!

I have a Maxxis like that on my 950. It's not gonna last long, but I've found this the tire the one with the most "push" in sand. Not bad on gravel either. But rocks and tar will chew it up in no time.

Small Hi JAck......if you are looking for a excellent tyre for sand on the 950, try the 908.....it's like having a shovel connected to the rear swing arm  ;D

Hi-Jack off

Best for the 610 is the Mitas C-02 or E-09.
I run the C-02 on my XR650 and it grips like nothing else. The bonus of the E-09 is its strength as it is a 4 ply tyre and you can basically ride it with NO air in it and you pretty much guaranteed no flats!

:thumleft: the talk around the camp fire has all been possitive about the Mitas range

The C-02 has done national enduro and offroads and Andy 660 recons he will race anyone on gravel with his C-02 on and it is DOT rated!

The E-09 last for ever and is tougher than anything on the market and actually lead a stage in last years Dakar!!! you want drive in sand ?  ;)

Yes The C-16 also got a gold at last years Roof of Africa but it wont last as long as the C-02...The C-16 is designed up to a 450 and I think a 610 will be a bit much for it and it may not give you the km's you would like?

Hey Buks
What tyre did you eventually put on the back of you 610. I need to replace soon and have not found a replacement yet.

I settled on a TKC80 in the end. Cannot give feedback yet, still fresh and waiting for a 4000km trip at the end of Sept.

The TKC is rubbish on the 610, off the road it has no grip at all. Mine only lasted 1500 km's which is just as well if you ask me. My next tyre will be a Michelin Desert.

:o That's what the Maxxis gave me, so I fear it won't even last the duration of the planned trip at the end of Sept !!

:mwink: Well the TKC80 surprised me on our 3000km trip last week over all kinds of terrain. Should be good for another 1000+; even after being through Bastervoet and Lesotho!  :thumleft:

I also use the TKC 80 on the back only on my one 610 TE ---works well for me --- Not the greatest on kilometrs --But hell i would rather pay the price and feel safe. I only get about 4 to 5 thousand km on the back but at Under R900 --who cares ---

Has anybody tried Pirrelli DOT rated trails tyres?  The guys on the AdvRider 610 thread rate those quite highly especially for off road traction.

I'm getting close to needing new tyres to replace the Heidenaus which are fast running out of tread.

Pirelli MT43 DOT Approved Trials Tyre review

http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/392/1963/Motorcycle-Article/Pirelli-MT-43-Pro-Trials-Tire-Review.aspx

Anyone know where to get one in SA?

Seem to good in all conditions except thick mud - and then its case of being careful not to spin them.

Speed rated up to 93mph which is more or less the 610's top speed.

 :peepwall: Mine does 100mph.....
Nevertheless, one seldomly rides those speeds on a thumper! I'll enquire locally about these Pirelli's, maybe some dealer have access and prices on them.

I have a set of Pirreli's on my CR250R (bought the bike with them fitted) and I like them. I have only ridden sand on this bike so I do not know how durable they would be.

After a lot of research I'v ordered one of those Pirelli MT43's  should have it next week.

As I understand it the Pros and Cons are:

Pro's
Unbelievable traction on dry dirt, rocks, roots, wet tar, wet rocks
Good traction in sand although some complain of a "push the front" effect when trying to turn
Apparently very good in "certain types" of mud, cant quite make out what they mean because others complain about the mud performance
Good on tar - max speed 93mph which basically the bike's top end.  I very seldom go anywhere near there (150 is my max cruising speed on highways more normally around 140) so its not an issue.

Cons
Square profile makes it a bit unpredictable in high speed corners on dirt - apparently tends to let go suddenly - this worried me almost to the point of cancelling (my speeds have been creeping up steadily on gravel - tend to blast along more often than not) but enough people seem to really rave about them to make me want see how they go.
Not a great tyre if your riding style is to spin the tyre through all obstacles and corners, it doesn't like being spun.  I find the Husky tends to spin the current Heidies (note its not MY fault but the bikes  ::)) quite a lot, but I really like the trials style of riding ie good balance and grip and finesse rather that just balls to the wall through everything - I'm hoping we'll get along in this respect.
Useless in deep clay type mud, but then nothing but a proper knobbly is going to help and even they will have their limits.
Not good for rear braking - not sure why but  pretty much everyone says this - I hardly use the rear brakes at all so that doesn't bother me.
Not good if you like to break the back loose or lean right over in corners - apparently they don't break loose until they just let go completely - a bit worrying - again enough people rave about them to warrant a try.
2000 miles is all you can expect.  They aren't that pricey and prefer having good traction to having a tyre than never wears out.

Check out the Mitas ET-01 trial tyre DOT rated and we have tested it to 130 km/h and it runs straight as an arrow. Unique thing about the ET-01 is it has a stronger than usual trials tyre side wall and the crown (tread area) is not as "square" as a traditional trials tyre same as the front and this makes its cornering much better! the ET-01 also got a silver and gold finnish at last years Roof of Africa!
