What's the oil capacity of a TE610?
« on: June 25, 2011, 08:51:13 am »
:-\ The manual's imperial units is useless!!
Phoning around and searching the web I got answers varying from 1l to 1.8litres.
So I began with 1.6 litres, but then it pushes out oil from the breather. I reduced it by sucking out small quantities of oil with a 'medical injecter',and then riding it, and it seems to be fine now around 1.2  litres - halfway between marks when cold!
(I drained it thouroughly, replacing the oil filter and cleaning the left side oil screen below the gearlever. Didn't remove the clutch cover to clean the other oil screen.)

I was under the impression it was 1.8litres.

I've changed oil twice so far, in addition to the dealer services.  I havent measured precisely, I just get the bike level and then add in small increments until it gets to the right level in the sight glass.

I do get a small black spot on the inside of the air cleaner, when ever I clean that from the engine breather but it doesnt look excessive so I haven't worried about it.

I havent cleaned the two oil screens yet, only changed oil filters.  Its about due for the 10,000 k service so I'll get them to do that then, as well as check the cam chain.

:) Thanks, but mine doesn't want 1.8l in its belly.
I'm sitting here with the manual and my diary - which has conversion tables- and a calculator, and the answer I'm getting is plus minus 1 litre.
Nevertheless, it seems that halfway between marks when cold is OK. Alan, I also checked my timing chain - ratchet of tensioner is on 4-5 teeth, which appears to be the spec for a new chain, and mine is on 5200k's.

Just a note after doing my first service, the 610 has two drain plugs. The one at the rear has an allen head and houses the magnetic drain plug. It releases much more oil than the front one. I put in 1.8L after replacing the filter.

I also found that tipping the bike from side to side produced quite alot more oil through the drain plugs (bike hot), Did you do the mesh filters?
