Went on a great weekend ride this weekend, until at one stage when I pressed the starter button, all I heard was the starter running "free". Pressed again, same thing! Eventually it engaged the flywheel and started. This then continued to be the case on average every one out of three starts. Quite nerve racking when you are 300km's from home in the bush.
Is this the beginning signs of the starter packing up? I have also been experiencing, on occasion, a loud "clack"" noise when switching the bike off, apparently characteristic of the sprag clutch. Could this starter failure and sprag be linked?
