Arusha-Dodoma-Mbeya Tanzania road conditions Info needed.
« on: August 06, 2011, 09:17:52 am »
Yo guys,

We need a bit of info regarding the road going Arusha-dodoma-mbeya and into malawi. we'll be hitting it in the next week or so and if someone has up to date road conditions, we'd apreciate the info.
The longer alternative I suppose is Arusha-dar-mbeya but its a massive detour.

Thanks in advance dogs!

Jaco
BTW we're on a Transalp and suzi drz, Loaded.

Some sections rutted and very bad but absolutely doable, spoke to some travelers that did that not long ago. Carry extra petrol if you can. The Michelin map is useless.

IN Malawi you must stay at Myoka village in Nkatha bay and Fat Monkies in Monkey bay cape Mclear. It's on Tracks4Africa

In Makambako in Tanzania on your way down to Malawi stay at Shinkansen lodge S8 51.011 E34 49.414, it's dirt cheap and there's a nice place to eat next door. The managers name is Sarafina. I did not take her coords but these I gave you is close to where it is I think you will manage.

Cheers michnus!

Coming from mozambique to dar broke our spirit so we're making a hasty retreat to malawi and plan to spend more time in Nam.
Cheers for the info, will check out the places you mentioned.

At the moment in Malawi here is a big Fuel Crisis. Mostly fuel is available on the “Market”!!, ridicules prices… need not say more.
In Lilongwe and Cape Maclear I can help you guy’s with Fuel. Might be able to arrange some in Salima / Sengha Bay. But carry as much as possible with you.

Which route are you planning on taking in Malawi and where do you intend to go?
