Namibia in three weeks
« on: August 07, 2011, 07:54:01 pm »
Hi guys.

At the moment i'm in Zambia and on my way to South Africa. Soon i will enter Namibia. I've been looking forward to Namibia for sometime.
Today i've been doing a bit of research and planning and have come up with the following route.

http://maps.google.nl/maps/ms?msid=211667491440577269280.0004a9ee0faafda905deb&msa=0

-   Is this route possible to travel on the bike?
-   Can i enter Sossusvlei with the motor? Or what is a good alternative to see sunrise?
-   How do i get permits for certain roads? Can i only get them at the Namibian park office in Windhoek. Or can i get them at the tourist offices in for example Swakopmund?

Hopefully this is all doable...

All of them do-able by bike.
No you cannot go to Sossosvlei with the bike.
Either hike or pay them to take you.
If you get there tell them the rule stinks!! Big time!!

hmm, so if i cant enter the park, where do i leave the bike? I read that you have to camp in the park to be able to make it for sunrise. The park doesnt open when it's still early and dark.

Their rules indeed suk!

You leave your bike at the Sesriem campsite.
Gates open very early for fourwheel vehicles.

Was at sesriem and sossous vlei last week, by car , there is tar road from sesriem to the vlei where you ride taxi on landrover for last 5km at N$100 per person.

Try and avoid R27 from sesriem to betta, road very scenic but in bad condition . all other gravel roads are in good condition though.
