You can't ride with full ATTGATT...
« on: May 28, 2007, 03:11:13 pm »
So you were expecting a crash type story because the ATTGATT got in the way right. Well you're not getting one!

It's become a personal pet peeve, so either I want to set everyone straight with my full 5 months biking knowledge, or I want someone to explain why I shouldn't get annoyed.

So here it is:

You do not get "full atgatt" as I've seen quoted in many threads, atgatt by definition is all the gear, so you can't wear full all the gear, just in the same way that you don't get SCUBA gear (the A in scuba stands for apparatus, and you don't get apparatus gear)...

So here is the new list:
ATGATT - When you have ALL the gear on, helmet jacket, riding pants, gloves, riding boots
SOTGATT - Some of the gear ie. you are missing the riding pants or boots etc.
NOTGATT - None of the gear. You're the guy in the t-shirt and jeans
SEEMYGATT - Special term reserved for shorts, plakkies, bikini tops (but don't stop that on my account) and anyone helmetless
NICEGATT - Female pillions with a G-string showing
VETGATT - The stuff Welsh wears (just kidding Welsh, please don't hurt me) :D

So agreements/comments/flames?

*edited cos I karent spel when I rant

After a 60 yard slide down Hertzog Blvd while on my butt, at the same time watching my RT head towards an intersection, and then standing up without a scratch convinced me that riding without ATGATT is stupid.

Many think that because they're nipping to shop they needn't wear the gear - well my RT accident happened at 45mph (60kph) in the city when I hit a huge diesel spill.

Yesterday, I went arse over t1t in a high-side while on dirt. While I have a bruise on the palm of my hand, I've not a single graze aywhere, despite going over the handlebars (I think  :x ) at about 30kph.

So for me, it's ATGATT or no ride. I've also come to realise I don't bounce as well as I used to when I was 12, although the physique suggests different.

Cheers

Lawrence
