Hey there DRZ buddies.

I just took delivery of my DRZ, and I have no form of carrier, toolbox/tooltube on it.
Can you guys drop in some pics of your setup, or maybe even recommendations of best setups or place to buy this kind of thing?

I have tried the carrier rack...but due to riding like an idiot and also not tying things down properly , I have managed to lose some very expensive tools.

Now I use a Giant Loop Mojavi which allows me to carry all the tools I need , plus spare tubes , plus oil etc etc.

It looks like this:

I have it on my DRZ.
It is the only bolt-on rack that is very sold and will not let you down.
You can typically expect to pay about R 1500 for it from one of the vendors

I dont use a tooltube. I have a toolbag that I pull down on top of my luggage.

Those giant loop bags are VERY nice

My bike came with some nicely done home-made racks. My only complaint is that they are convex, they match the same shape as the plastics, which is not ideal because they push into the my soft panniers and reduce the space available inside the bag. I use them with oxford soft pannier. I have two tool-tubes in the garage, when I finally get round to it I will mount them on the left hand side, so that it is opposite the exhaust.

Lots of options for the DRZ with the subframe. I'm also a big fan of the Giant Loop bags. If you want to go the whole shebang how about this one

80 - 120mm M10 stainless bolts into existing holes on sub-frame. Stainless flat bar needed on right for fourth hole. I now cable-tie or strap anything directly onto the rear fender which is cover with clear vinyl to prevent scratching. I use a Lowepro camera bag that attaches to these tie-down points in 10 seconds.

Just done 4 days in Lesotho on a XR650L and a DRZ 400.
Brilliant & both bikes great - excepting my son kept buzzing me on his DRZ ...

So, the luggage we had kept falling off, getting loose etc etc.
Is the sub frame strong enough standard ?
What systems for a soft top bag & soft panniers.
Anybody have any specific experience? Lots to see on the net however would really like to get some personal experienced feedback

Any pics ?

If you have the DRZ E-model, the subframe is strong enough.

If you have the S-model, the subframe is not strong enough.

Thanks for the info so far.
One question - my DRZ is a recent purchase.
I thought I had an S model and discovered that when I got a S long rage tank it did not fit.
My tank fitting takes the rubber strech clip at the base & not the two bolts. Is this a way of confirming what the frame & model is ?

If it has a plastic tank its an E, but the best way to be sure is by checking the carb which is a pumper on the E's and CV-type on the S- and SM-models. In SA and Australia e.a. the E is sold with lights etc. 2000 E-models in SA had steel tanks, though.
The full-on off road E-models without lights have a shorter subframe because no tail-light is fitted.
I put two M8-bolts through the holes just behind the seat and added two more mounting holes for two more bolts with a 200mm length of flat bar that extends backwards from the holes behind the seat. The two bolts and flat is visible in the pic, as well as the bag I strap on. I've had enough stuff for a 3 day trip on there including tools.

I bought the bike from Edgy. He was the one who made the small pannier frames.

I had the bike for 2 years and sold it to Frannarossi.

Not sure if he's still got it on the bike, but you can PM him and ask...........and he can
perhaps take detail pics for you.
It was the only practical solution for the DRZ.
