"You can use mine"
« on: August 23, 2011, 12:49:41 pm »
I went to the Honda training day on Saturday for some much needed training. Unbeknownst to me, Uncle Murphy was there as well, and barely had the training started when my clutch cable snapped.
I went over to Hoofseun AKA Johan and told him about my problem, and his answer was simple. He pointed to his bike (an almost brand new Honda XR650) and told me to use it for the training. He then jogged up and fetched his 800GS to give the training with.
That is really good service, and the course was worth going on. I learned some amazing bike skills, all taught with patience and lots of help.
The Honda XR650 turned out to be a fantastic bike to do the course on, and as soon as I win the lotto it will be the next bike in my stable!
Thanks to ADA and the Honda training guys, they will definitely be seeing me again soon.

Leon, I would like to hear your opinion about thr XR650?
I thought it was an excellent bike, and if I had to replace the KLR right now, it would be a top condenter. The bike is light and nimble, and had metal pegs as standard. I would have to put on a long range tank to suite the touring that I do, but I would not put crash bars on the bike, because it's an air - cooled bike so no radiator to protect.
I really cannot give you an opinion on the seat, as we rarely sat down during training. Someone mentioned that the dry weight was 30KG less than a KLR. I'm not sure how accurate that is, but it certainly felt like it.
I can warn you, if you are going to take a test ride on this bike, you are going to be very, very tempted.
