Advice/Opinion on new BMW G 650 GS
« on: August 25, 2011, 10:12:34 am »
Hi All

I am new on the forum so please excuse if the post is in the wrong section.

I am contemplating on getting the new 2011 G 650 GS BM for the wife and would like to hear some advice on should or shouldn't for buying the bike.

I have read only good reviews but don't want to make the outlay if anyone foresees any problems with the purchase.

We tried the F650 Dakar but is a bit too large for her...

Any advice will be appreciated.

Regards

It's a great bike.
Not meant for very rough stuff (mag wheels)
If you're looking for a 650 for her, why not try a 2nd hand F series with spoked wheels.

Welcome to the forum and ignore the "greet nazi's" that are sure to follow.

My personal opinion is that is is a great bike for a woman. It is low, has enough power but not overwhelming for a new rider and is well build regardless of what some of the other brand fanboys might say.

You might need to farkle it a bit (put some accessories on it) but it is a great bike and you won't go wrong.

Forgot about that... But since she is new she is probably not going to do the Dakar so the mags should hold up fine.

Plus.... don't V-stom's have mag wheels...? And some consider that a great DS bike.

One of the new 650 for "sale"

I owned a twin spark for years and loved that bike. It's still around with another forum member. Not sure if you can get the lower seat with the new 650' but that is an option your wife might consider.

A good friend of Mine also on the Forum ( Arrie ) has just purchased one, We did the the Giraffe rally with him on the G650GS and let me tell you that is one phenomenal bike, Light Agile easy in the cornering did all the dirt and technical stuff we did probably 80% better because if its weight.

I believe she wont be disappointed at all.

Has been discussed before - you should be able to get some pointers here:
http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=66975.0

Basically, the bike is the old favourite F650GS single, with new bodywork, mag wheels and some other tweaks. It shouljd be a great bike.

Note, the bike for sale above is completely different, a F650GS twin (detuned 800). Blame BM for the naming confusion.
