New KTM 690 & 990 Adventure
« on: June 05, 2007, 01:15:34 pm »
For all of you that have been waiting for the new 690 adventure -  sorry. there is not going  to be one. Never

However it looks like KTM will be treating us, quite soon, with a Rally 690. This is the model which will replace the 640 Adventure and will use the new 690 single motor. This is a different model from the Dakar bike which is the 690 Rallye Factory Replica.

The 990 and 990s will be relaced with 1190 Adventure Travel and Adventure Dakar Models

Very nice step by KTM to upgrade 990s to 1200. More torque, at least I hope so, but don't think it's gonna happend under "ready to race" logo in civilized way, it'll probably have some 120+bhp but because of that the torque peak is shifted to 6500rpms or higher. Probably just a downgraded RC8 tar sports engine? Like the Firestorm v-twin on Varadero... (too) revvy stuff.

If they'd leave make 1200cc v-twin to make around 100bhp like the current 990, just with longer stroke then I'd take this bike very seriously in my want list. Effective torque distribution would be then shifted much lower RPMs than the current 950/990s, much more suitable engine character for my needs then.

Can't believe they discount the good old single cyl Adventure?! Probably it's the only fully reliable and capable KTM for very long distances and third world travel. Why they do that??? Or they know it and want to leave it as it is?

Spy shots? The 690 Rallye was at the Show. But this is not a 640 ADV replacement.

Welsh'pic shows a Rallye replica but the tank decal reads 690 Rally just to put us off track. With the rear tanks, twin cans and navigation kit this bike is realy a Rallye Replica''

If you look at the new ''prototype'' 690 Baja (which is supposed to be the replacement for the 640 LC4 enduro range) you'll see it has a single exhaust ( and a very intersting fuel tank for an enduro bike (a la GS 650).

(Ballies tried to teach me how to insert pics, but that bit of the brain had allready been drunk to oblivion - therefore the url's)

My guess is that the 640 Adventure replacement - the 690 Rally will have the front tank & fairing look of the rallye replica bike and a slimmer tail end and single pipe. I jut hope KTM stop slapping the 990 (or future 1190)'s forks and dual front disks on the 690 as cost saving measure and return the single disk. An even more feable hope is that there will still be a kickstarter

Interesting, I am no Katoom expert, can anybody can tell us if that is a 690 Rallye Replica or not, must say it looks like the European show bikes, so is it the new motor?

Ok, so its three years down the line and KTM still don't have a bike to fill the gap left by the 640 adventure.

I heard that the international market does not suit the smaller capacity bikes so they will not continue the 640/690 adventure line in that format but only produce the 690 enduro.  Not good news if you want to hit the long road and do serious off-roading too.

The 690 Rallye clocks in at almost the same price as a new Hilux 4x4 and the vrou is not gonna fall for that idea - Anyone know if it's possible to mod 690 enduro's privately to suit more long distance riding like the job the guys did in the Dakar for the WR 450's?

Got a mate with a WR 450 who wants to mod it too - any ideas there...

Guess that the only way to get a 690 Adventure anytime soon is to do it yourself...
Ride it like u stole it!!
